« on: August 12, 2004, 01:30:23 am »
I read somewhere it could be done....Now, ive figured it out, but here is the catch from what i have seen there are only two levels of Transparency: Clear and Solid, with no Inbetweens...am i doing something wrong?

thats what i did, but it seems as if the game is converting the grayscale alpha channel to duotone..

but it could be my video card.

When I did it about a year or so ago, I found that grey alpha channel would give you a translucent texture. I haven't messed with it since, though it looked cool to make the windows see-through, it just wasn't worth the effort or the lag. But it did make for some pretty cool screenshots.

Were you using TGAs somehow with SFC?  Or you were adding alpha channels somehow to a BMP?  Just curious as to what kind of bitmap you found worked that allowed alpha channels.  I'd love to give this a try myself... I can think of at least three or four good applications using varying degrees of transparencies or translucency.  :D

There a couple of models that seem to have an 'outer' layer and an 'inner' layer... cant remeber what they are, but it'd be fun to be able to toy with it.... maybe the outer layer could be transparent; that'd be fun...

You can make a poligon transparent by flipping its normal before exporting..... Or if you mirrored from other object....but it is all transparent.....

I hope there is a better way with an alpha channel..

Alpha channels using *.tga, there is a good utility at BC files for editing alpha channels.

Have you ever tried applying the texture as a transparency map instead of a diffuse one?

Oooooooooo the possibility of a ship that looked cloaked all the time and yet can still fire ???? Oh man
1) BoP from ST VI
2) Scimitar
3) And dare I dream of crystaline textures for Tholians
Is it possible ????

Yes they are all possible, I had done the Scimitar and changed the specs file and decreased its silhouette to make it harder to hit. It was fun to play.
