1) carrier escorts are a support vessel - assuming they escort a carrier
2) commando boats are support vessels - assuming they have a shield punching big brother
3) bombardment ships are support vessels - assuming we use them as such
4) tugs are support ships - with pod carrying they become rather ponderous beached whales
5) AUX freighters - geared towards combat - but not the carrier types
Not sure I agree with this type of definition. Let me try a more wet-navy approach.
A combat support vessel is a *naval ship* that does not participate in combat operations, but is needed to support the fleet. In short, a Naval Auxilary. Wet navy analogies would include underway replenishment ships and fleet depot ships. In SFB terms, I think of combat support vessels as Tugs, fast combat resupply ships and the like.
Specialty ships such as bombartment ships and carrier escorts are intended to stand in a battle line, and are support ships in the same way an ISC DN supports a frigate gun line with its PPD's. A SFC Carrier Escort serves the same function as WWI destroyers which screened the fleet.
In SFC terms, we have support ships such as Tugs and Aux carriers. We have independent operation ships such as Cruisers, destroyers and exploration ships. We have Fleet ships such as Scouts, Escorts, Carriers, and DN's. None of these Fleet ships are intended to operate alone. We also have special assult ships such as Bombardment ships and Commando ships.
