I can't connect, please help.
« on: August 11, 2004, 02:19:27 pm »
I just reinstalled OP and can't get connected to the dynaverse.  I've changed the wonserversetup.gf file using both the ip address and also with the blackfleet.net addresses, yet I keep getting a firewall message.  what am I missing?

Thanks.

I also know that the *OLD* Windows XP Firewall can mess it up!   I don't know about the new Windows XP firewall, I think you have to set it manually to allow OP.

You can also Turn if Off, however, it's safer to configure it, or find an alternative to Windows XP Firewall.

I post this becuase that was MY screwup after a looong discussion! I left it on unknowingly!  ::)

Yes, the new settings that come with the XPSP2 allow you to set certain programs to access the internet, I set mine to allow several games, they all work fine even with the XP firewall running.

Cool, that's good to know, I haven't tested it yet. Thanks for the info Krueg.

After installing the XP service pack, open your control panel. You will see a few new additions, XP firewall settings, and other security controls, etc. Been playing around with stuff figuring things out.

That's usually how I work things out too, but sometimes the manual is handy.

Yup, I saw that and just turned it all off anyway, lol. I just hadn't tested the programs permissions as that is the only obvious new feature in the firewall. drb just confirmed it works (for D2 use anyway) as well.

I've confirmed that the windows firewall is not on.  In this directory:  C:\Program Files\Taldren Software Inc\Starfleet Command Orion Pirates\MetaAssets\ServerProfiles\Multiplayer -- I've modified WONServerSetup.gf to read this:

Name="ServerSetup"

[Settings]
SingleThreaded = 1
CreateCentralSwitch = 0
SinglePlayer = 0
BlockSize             = 10000 // How many micro-seconds to spend on server side stuff before doing page flip
DelayMultiple          = 1.0   // What multiple of time to wait before going back to server side stuff
PacketQueLimit         = 75    // What

[CentralSwitchSetup]
Listen = 0

[WONDirectoryServer]
//ServerPath = "/StarFleetCommand2/Game/Release"
ServerPath = "/StarFleetCommand2/Game/Release"
//ServerPath = "/StarFleetCommand2/Game/Release_Test"

[WONDirectoryServer/Addresses]
0="63.101.60.125:15101"
//0="sfc2.west.won.net:15101"
//1="sfc2.central.won.net:15101"
//2="sfc2.east.won.net:15101"

[Clients]
ChatClient            = 1
SecurityClient         = 1

I get a firewall message when trying to connect to Dynaverse.
I'm not behind a proxy or anything like that.  As a matter of fact, it worked two weeks ago.  I've just installed a new legimate copy of Windows XP over my *ahem* other one.  Any more ideas?

Do you have Norton or McAfee running? (especially firewall components..) Are you running ZoneAlarm?
How are you connected? Who is your ISP? What type of modem? Do you have a router?

Disabled Norton Antivirus.  ZoneAlarm off.  Windows Firewall disconnected.  Cable connection.  Worked fine a couple of weeks ago before new installation of XP Professional.

Make sure that your Network Connection isn't bridged.

Where's that located?  Not sure how to check that.

Go into "Network Connections" from "Control Panel" , then right click on your "LAN or High-Speed Internet" adapter that is currently enabled. If there is an option in the drop dowbn that says "Bridge Connection" then you are not Bridged and all is well. If it says something like "Diable Bridge" or "un-bridge" then select it.

Just tested, I can connect through GSA, but not connect to Dynaverse.

This is the message I receive:

A firewall has been detected or you are not online.  You are unable to connect.

Presently, my WONServerSetup.gf file looks like this:
