Doesn't look like it's actually been released. Takes me to a page that says coming soon.

he Network install is released.. it is 266 MB big.. the one coming soon is the Windows update version which is only 100 MB.. so inorder to get the full benifits, I recommend the network install of the package.. too many people rely on window's updates.. which is great, but when referring to a service pack.. the full pack is always the best..

go back and click on a couple of links and read what is up... I think you missed the part where the y have the network install available.. DL installer name is called

WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe

Slipstreamed and clean installed, works a charm, not noticing anything different over the last few Beta's - which is probably a good thing  ;D

the service pack works for Home, Pro, Corporate Edition, MCE 2002, MCE 2004 .. XPSP 2 turns all XP systems into "Pro" edition even though your system will still state "Home", XPSP 2 installs Pro components.. the network install just gives you some more Pro components and adds a lot of stability..

i have 2 laptops here.. 1 running Windows XP Home Edition, 1 running Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition 2004

both have had all versions of the full XPSP 2 on them (network install) and both have XPSP 2 Final release on them now installed from Network install and now both have the exact same Windows files, except the CE system has the MCE 2004 enhancement package (which got new drivers for it's components) and the Home edition did not.. but other than the Media Center Package on the one.. all other windows files are identical on both systems and not a problem 1 with either system.. not even a lock-up.. I've been using the Final Release version for 2 and 1/2 weeks now on both systems.. gave the older system to my sister... and they are both going strong.. I think they even tweaked memory management some as well in it .. I say this as games work smoother.. but besides that.. my sister uses PSP 7 and Animation shop fo rher groups.. she makes animated siggies.. she use to get Out of Memory errors on my old system and now she has yet to encounter an out of memory error in PSP.. and she uses about 80+ filters to enhance images...

the system she is using is the old home Edition laptop I was stating earlier.. working like a charm...

and not to worry.. so long as you have System Restore turned on before installing the package.. if you don't like it, just restore your system or use Add/Remove programs to uninstall it... very simple and easy to get going correctly... but i can almost guarantee that you will not uninstall XPSP 2..

Is it true that Wondows automatically turns on Windows firewall when using the service pack?  If so, how do you turn it off?  I like Norton better.  Thanks!

Yeah, the default is to have it turned on.  To turn it off under SP2, from the Start menu select Settings->Control Panel->Security Centre, then down at the bottom there's a "Windows Firewall" link.   Open that up and you'll see an option to turn off the Windows firewall.

Actually as far as the Firewall that XPSP 2 fixes...

when you FIRST install XPSP 2, it will go through a small config much like when you first install Windows XP.. however it will

#1, ask if you wish to turn on automatic updating for windows components

#2, turn on the firewall, or turn off the fire wall, or configure the firewall for Exclusions or No Exclusions...

Now if it does not do #2, you can go into your networking folder in control Panel.. in the section on the left of the window... aka the light blue info and quick panels... you will see "Configure firewall".. just click on that link and it will give you the choice on the settings.... Very easy to turn on and off.
