No strings attached
« on: August 09, 2004, 05:19:13 pm »
As I write this to you I am at hoem, connected to the internet, WIRELESSLY!!!!
A brand spanking new handy dandy high speed low drag Airport Extreme Base station just arrived today to accompany my new iBook, and I'm quite pleased to be connected like this, even if I am still only connected to the internet on a remote 56k connection.  Just the same, though, it operates at least as well as if i were wired into the telephone line.  YAY ME!!!

But tell me, can you heal what father's done?
Or fix this hole in a mother's son?
Can you heal the broken worlds within?
Can you strip away so we may start again?
Tell me, can you heal what father's done?
Or cut this rope and let us run?
Just when all seems fine, and I'm pain free, you jab another pin,
Jab another pin in me

With desktop computers, I had little to no need for it.  Now that I have a laptop, however, it's almost essential, and so very very fun!   ;D

Indeed! I now use a D-Link 108mbps system. VERY nice. I actually get faster download speeds with the wireless card than with my hard line.

I don't know what WEP is, sicne I'm brand spanking new to wireless.  I do, however, have most things on my iBook password protected, which helps, and was planning to add an encryption system built into OS X.
I did want to wait, though, since a neighbor was curious how easy it would be to hack into a wireless mac network with and without firewall, and all that stuff.  I've got the stuff, so I want to see what this wizkid, computer networking major can pull off.
