I thought I'de pass along this little story for you, as it was a truely strange evening.
I got off work from my office at around 4 o'clock. Came home, took the dog out, and started getting dinner ready for myself. I wasn't home fifteen minutes when the phone rings. This is my other employer calling me in, as there are 197 people in our bar. Strange that, we're normally closed on Monday.
I pack my dinner up, and jump in the car. When I get to the bar there are a bunch of buses outside, and some customs officers watching the doors. Goose Bay has one of the biggest airfields in eastern Canada, and we are listed as an emergency stop for trans-oceanic flights. It seems a Delta flight from Italy had problems with smoke in the cockpit, and had to be diverted here...hence the 197 people in my bar (I work in the Canadian Forces mess, just so you are not confused as to why they would be brought there).
I get stopped by the customs official as I go in and make clear to him that I've been called in to work. As I am walking towards the bar a guy asks for my Burger King bag, but by looking at him he really didn't need any such thing. Anyway, I explained that I hadn't eaten all day, and there was no way in hell he was getting my food. I'll explain why this was a mistake in a bit...
Anyway, I start working at the bar where we were not charging for drinks. Delta was footing the bill, so people were welcome to drink as much as they could take. The bar manager was on bar with me, and he served this somewhat familiar looking young lady. I asked him why she looked familiar, and he said that it was Tara Ried (from American Pie), or at least he thought so. She looks significantly different with no make up on. Still hot though.
I ended up working until 10 or 11 o'clock, as the Wing Chief decided to let us go early and took responsibility for the bar. As I was leaving he was talking to a few of the people in charge of taking care of the pasengers, so I joined in. One of them turns to me and said I was an idiot for not letting the previously mentioned man buy my Burger King from me. I asked why, and he told me that the man was the CEO of Morton's Restaurant Group and was a multi-millionaire. Turns out that he would have easily offered me a few hundred bucks for the contents of my Burger King bag (the passengers were under quarentine and could not leave the building). I'm a tad upset about that.
Oh I forgot, the girl I've previously mentioned was called in as well. She came back to the house again last night, and chilled for a bit. Actually, I had to drive her home again this morning. I'm really liking the fact that I can totally be myself around her. It's a very laid back relationship, and I like that.
