Boolean
« on: August 07, 2004, 06:01:11 am »
Ive been using the boolean to cut shapes out of a model... using a sphere then subtracting that sphere from the model to cut out a sphere shape..

Recently i am trying the same thing but instead of cutting out it is creating a sphere hole???

Any ideas why this would be happening....

also any one know where I can get my hands on a decent poly reduction plugin??? max v5

Thanks guys

I use 5 also....for some reason, max has a tendency to do that with boolean operations. :( Haven't figured out a fix yet. As for poly reduction, max comes with Optimize, and one I recently learned of, MultiRes. Both work pretty good for reducing polies. ;)

make sure your models dont have holes in them before you boolean.

Boolean

These are the Boolean operations for geometry:

Union? The Boolean object contains the volume of both original objects. The intersecting or overlapping portion of the geometry is removed.

Intersection? The Boolean object contains only the volume that was common to both original objects (in other words, where they overlapped).

Subtraction (or difference)? The Boolean object contains the volume of one original object with the intersection volume subtracted from it.

In easyspeak.... its a rough way of sticking to objects together... (not very clean....) But a good way to cut holes into things...

accessable through:-

Select an object. > Create panel > Geometry > Compound Objects > Object Type rollout > Boolean

Select an object. > Create menu > CompoundObjects > Boolean

Select an object. > Tab panels > Compounds tab > Boolean Compound Object

Good Luck  ;D
