F-4 Corsair Fighter
« on: August 04, 2004, 05:08:14 pm »
I know I said the Lightning was next but since Atolm already had this one built, I figured I may as well finish it for him. His original mesh had a high polygon count so I nuked a few to make it game-friendly and textured it.

;D OK WZ45, first off these new "space planes" are very nice and very well done.

I have to ask though, in SFB do these "space planes" really look like this?

I know that in space ships/fighters can be any shape/size because in a vacuum you don't have to be aerodynamic. I am just having a hard time understanding why a "modern" fighter would use a design similar to one over 500 years old. It's kind of like a modern navy wanting to use a 13th century Caraval or even a viking drakkar raider for a modern destroyer design...

Logic aside, the artistic liscense taken with the original real-world designs is awesome.

Thank you for sharing these.

These aren't SFB fighters, in fact, these aren't really anything more than a novelty and shouldn't be taken too seriously for obvious reasons. It's just that a lot of people (myself included) happen to like WW II/Modern fighter designs and this is a way to add that interest with SFC.

Just for argument's sake though, they're aerodynamic because they also double as atmospheric craft and planetary support.

The F-4 is one of my all time favorite WWII fighter planes.  Great work.  I still would like to know if anyone would convert some LWO format Wing Commander ships for me.

Awesome, WZ and Azel!! ;D

I, too, have always loved the Corsair. Guess it goes back to watching Ba-Ba-Blacksheep. :P

Oh. I know that these aren't SFB ftrs. The F4 in SFB is based off of the phantom. Although, if you wanted to continue on and graduate to later eras, that surely wouldn't bother me. I did put it in game though and fly it. I squadron af them looked pretty cool. They'd prabably look spot on with some of the preTOS Fed designs running around, like Sandman's.

Who's idea was the registry number?  Yours?  Atolm's?  Well, at least it's not FRI-13.
