Out of work Pilot Looking for employment... (GW3)
« on: August 04, 2004, 09:51:12 am »
Well This long time Gorn is looking for a flag to sail under.

So... Convince me... I am an old-timer who is comfortable in most any race's ship... but my understanding that my choices are Mirak/Fed/Klink for this server....

So who wants me?

Stay with us, Brother Raven.  While a few of our <cough> questionable captains have elected to fly with the pu...... umm.... fly with the kitties, most of the GDA have gone with the coaltion for the GW series.

Peace through Strength, scotch, and chocodillles await you.

It really doesn't matter which race you fly, any of them should be enjoyable.

Tell ya what, why don't you flip a coin?

If it lands on heads then fly Federation
If it lands on tails then fly Mirak
And if it lands on it's side then fly Klingon

you know Mog, he could be checking out the responses to see the personalities of those he will fly with.  If I had been away a while and came back to lots of new faces and wasn't already biased heavily, I might look around and post to see the types of responses I got with purely an interest into the personality types.  This, of course, may or may not be the case here.  I don't know Raven well so couldn't make an approximation as to the accuracy of this statement but I'd still give the benefit of the doubt.

Well who pissed in your cheerios moggy?  I fully intend on taking personal responsibility and choosing... I thought it might be a bit of fun to see who would post and how they would go about persuading a person who really hasn't made up his mind.  Most have done a wonderful job!  Some have taken the "SETI" tack... a smart call for those who wish to appeal to my friendships there... Others have told me what other gorns are doing (Bandwagon is a good tactic).  Other's have appealed to my sense of fun.  I hardly think it is any more a popularity contest than anything else here... I can honestly say that wasn't my intent.  Luckily other than you and Lepton, everyone else seems to just be having fun with it too...

So Mog, what you fling this time (As it appears that ISCheese will not be availiable  ;D)?

Ah, my bad. I owe you an apology. I remembered you doing this before, many moons ago and jumped to a conclusion, evidently the wrong one. Sorry Sean.

As for what I'm flying, what little time I will spend will be as Klingon. I assume the ISC crack was for RT3 (or was it for the couple of hours I spent on LB5 as ISC?)? I remember our battles on there, the closest ones I had. Good fun :) I hope that you don't think I play ISC all the time though.

No worries... just didnt understand what had you so upset... From what I have seen in here there is a lot of banter and fun to be had... I thought I would make an informal way of finding out who was playing what and stir up a liittle fun at the same time (It should be noted that the what are you flying in GW3 was made after this thread).  As to me doing this before... well that is possible... although it would have had to been a long time ago... as I think it has been a long time (before LB5) since I had been on the Dynaverse... to be honest I played on GSA for the first time in AGES last night.

I am sure you don't play ISC all the time, and I know you are fine pilot... I just decided that if you could "tweak" my Personal responsibility attribute, I could taunt your recent choice of race.

Recent race? ISc for a couple of hours, about 5 hours of Fed, 1 of Gorn and about 8 as Lyran :)

Got to admit I love the early Zinti ships... but the klinks own the CLs...

GE-Raven

I am not sure what the starting era is (think its 2270 though) and I haven't seen a website for the rules yet (Kroma? Jinn?).

As for which race to fly, you bring up a good point.  If you need the assistance of a better ship (i.e. the excellent D5 series) in order to make up for some rustyness with the game, completely understandable.  But if you do believe that the early/mid era may be an interesting challenge with a Mirak ...

Challenge yourself, don't take the easy way out.

Server starts in 2271 actually. Here the link for the rules page for all the GW series:

I'm sure you will be able to get a wing if you feel a little rusty. If you have trouble, I'm planning on being online quite a bit, give me a shout and I'll fly your wing anytime, Raven.  ;)

I see three Klingons in the top 16, and a Romulan.

You mentioned that somebody had played the "SETI Card".  That was me, and I'm gonna run a truck through it.  I sure hope you fly Klingon along with your other SETI pals like Dogmatix and I.

You have worked with your SETI friends for almost three YEARS.  I personally registered on March 2002.  Along with others, I worked through the screensaver, figuring out how to get that command-line client to run, and then assembling an array of computers to run it.  I'm proud of those 9000+ work units.  It took a lot of work.  I remember the Mazeppa-Moofighters battle when I fully utilized my array to stop Moofighters onslaught on my place in the standings.  .  I had NINE computer crunching work units.  Three of those were in my tiny little den during a very hot Oklahoma Summer in 2002.  It got in the mid-80's in the den, and reached 90 a couple of times.  My kids and I simply dressed down to shorts, added fans, and CRUNCHED WORK UNITS.  I stoppe the Bovine advance when he was within about 25 WU's.

Do you remember your rise to the top?  That was a lot of fun.  Come join us for more fun in GW3.

I am unceartain about anyone els but perhaps if you are used to haveing the back up of a particular race as you crush your enemies you would be more comfortable in thier vessels. the main thing i will miss is my plasma torps. at least we traded a few cloaking devices for those warp drives way back when.............

another romulan engages in the officer exchange program
(and flies klink while looting them for every tech secret he can see)

The more the merrier, but as there are no Lyrans in then GW3 server you will need to select Federation, Mirak, or Klingon.

I'm sure you would be very welcome no matter which you choose.

Such limited choices!  Well, I suppose (should I ever get hooked up for the online game), I would go with the Klinks.

So, now what?

Bang your head into a wall until it grows some funny bumps, then learn to enjoy eating live worms.

The rest comes easy.

Well...at least most of the homely ones are. Those of the drop dead gorgous varity are flying Kzin.

Well, you did fly Klingon on GW1....that you switched sides when the sledding got tough is another story...  ;)

NICE...I'm still in the Top 20 and I haven't submitted a WU in six months!  heheh...

Seriously, I'm not proud...I'll come out and say it...I'd personally be honored in Raven joined us for GW3.  I have a feeling we're going to need every captain we can get our hands on because I believe GW3 is going to be one of the "payback" situations and in the GW series, the Coalition is probably due.  I just hope that whatever happens, it's due to superior strategy and tactics and not because it's a lop-sided turnout.  That's a buzzkill of the first degree...
