In-Space Stargates
« on: August 03, 2004, 05:58:54 pm »
One for SG1 and one for Atlantis. They are small, just big enough to fit a shuttle into. I'll probably include a scaled up one when they are ready for download, maybe frigate sized. I still need to add Illumination to them. :)

SG1

Atlantis

In SFC II/OP there are those anamolies / tears in space. How would I go about animating the center of one of these models and then swapping it to appear in game ? I was thinking a fluid like appearance for the center.....obviously  :P

Well it is possible... somehow... I'm not exactly sure how but it is the same conecpt of having the Doomsday Machine have the PK-Maw.bmp texture running over the mouth. I'll look into this for you, I would like to see something like that too, it would let us have triggers in missions that could turn the gates on an off. It would be great for a Stargate TC if anyone ever made one.

WOW! Mine look like crap next to those lol. Mine are 336 Polies each. Looks like I am missing a Chevron too, thought there were only 8. Think I have to go back to the drawing board lol  :-[

Are yours up for download Seraph? I'd love to look at them close up :)

Yeah, there are nine - but the ninth hasnt been used yet - but it is still lit when there is a wormhole active.

They will be made available as soon as i can make a Forcefield Atlantis version.

Wow thats awesome Seraph! What site did you find it at? I have been looking for pics from Atlantis to finish my Puddle Jumper but everything I find is photos of the crew or small parts pf the episode with no gate or ship pics.

Well after messing with it all day, I've finally come up with something alot better then my old ones. 1021 Polies. The glyphs still need a bit of work but I think it is coming along nicely.

Yeah, one with no readme.

Here's why I want it. Scenery type models do have a place in a dyna. Easily added to a mission, they truly enhance the SFC and mission experience. In my new dyna, I plan on using a few.

Now the problem with this one... is that it has WAY too many polies. Dunno how many, but I have a decent rig and Im pulling only 45 fps. Should see 145 fps.

What would make this model even cooler is to stick an SG-1 type stargate effect in the middle of it. This would create interesting LoS visual situations... And look cool as well.

Here are 2x screens one showing the polys. I hear there is a poly reducer program. Could it be made to work mb?

I can try making a Jumpgate, but be warned its going to be of a slight FoaS persuation.

A cool effect to try with a gate like that would be to mimic Lord Bile's old B'Lorian Wromhole Generator.

I think that was the first wormhole/gate thing anyone ever made for SFC.

I'd love to see how that one turns out :)

The effect is to be able to fly and fight inside and out of it. If you look at the Distance meter, you will see just how large it really is. In fact, this one is too large. There is another about half the size which is probably better.

Here is an in-game jumpgate:

Working on animating it ala B5.  Its a .mdl7 file, can convert to it .mod it needed/ wanted.

I already have that in .mod, but its got a few thousand too many polys. Thats the problem. Unless you have the latest rig it will slow you game to a halt. Forget about flying with missiles and fightyers let alone more than 2 ships, the poly count on that .mod jump gate is horrendous.

Was asking fury or anyone else if they know of a poly reducer/streamliner program...

I have a poly reducing program.  Bought it for game development use.  What do you need crunched?  (My jumpgate has WAY too many polys - 24K - will be crunched to 3000 - 5000 or so)
