Daniel died in season 6.  But he didn't really die.  He ascended.  Became a higher being, an Ancient One.  He was replaced by Jonas Quinn.  While ascended he still interacted on a limited basis with the team.  Sometime during season 7, I can't recall the specific episode, Daniel was sent back to our plane of existence.  Jonas ended up back on his planet and Daniel came back to the team.

Okay. At the end of season 7, they knew they were going to ceate a spinoff of Atlantis. That is the real reason for the two part finale.  Jessica Steen, who has been in many other shows, was tapped to play the part. When they actually got the casting of the new series, they decided to get another person to play the role and they choose Torri Higginson. Both Jessica Steen from season 7 and Hginson from season 8 and Atlantis are the same character.

As for the guy trying to leave earth. That was Col. Frank Simmons, played by John De Lancie. He was a part of the NID, the bad part of the NID actually. he also played Q in TNG, DS9 and Voyager.

It definitely was confusing when we went from Season 7 finale with one actress and went to Season 8 premiere with another one.

I agree. And I really preferred Jessica Steen, the one from season 7.

I don't know about that.  She was too close to a Sam clone for my taste.

I must share a funny SG1 story.  The other night some friends and I were MUSHING and talking about Stargate.  My wife mentioned that there was a lot of fanfic created based on a the episode where they're stuck in the time loop.  I made a comment about the whole thing with Jack and Sam.  One of the other women has never seen a single episode.  Her first comment was "SLASH"?  We were quick to point out that Sam == Samantha.

I didin't see her as a clone at all. Sure she was an intelligent woman with blondish hair but that was all. She wasn't military. In fact she was one of those that seemed to believe that reason is enough to settle conflicts. She was way out of her depth in running an organization with the size and make up of the SGC. She wasn't even near being a scientist. Well, maybe soft sciences.

I guess I just think Steen is a better actress than Higginson.

your mistaking him with another actor, i know of john de lancie -Q, but its not him, i was refering in tng when picard beverly and worf when on a secret mission on a secret laboratory on a cardasian post, the cpatain that replace picard on the enterprise during that time.

Are you talking about that Senator Kinsey, played by Ronnie Cox?

D'oh! I knew he was the VP. I just used the old office.

There is an interesting interview with him on gateworld.net that discusses where the character is coming from. Actually, they have a bunch of good interviews with people there.
