Umm, quick question?

What does this What does this file do?

http://klingon.stasis.ca/OP_plusrefit/opplus_34_models.exe.torrent
And where does it go?

That's if you wish to use BitTorrent instead of straight download. It supports auto-resume for those on dial who nonetheless wish to get the models version. Also spreads the bandwidth among the others who are seeding/downloading at the same time.

Nice windows version would be bittornado.

OK its  the dumb ass luddite here again.

I DL'd the ships with models. Made sure I had run uninstall of previous OP+ install. Put the DL in the Taldren folder, ran the app. Ran smooth as abutton as far as I can see.

I haven't tried it on a D2 yet, but in single player skirmish, there are a noticable number of "hang" moments, is this because I'm in single player? Also accessing the space dock brings up the screen with no supplies, hangs for 5 seconds or so then resumes as normal. Approx 3-5 seconds hang time on shields coming up, same with fighter launches and SPs going off, or any significant firing going on.

It's probably something I have done or not done, I'm a bit of a moron at this stuff.

1- you don't need to place the DL in the SFC:OP dir. ;) It reads the SFC Dir's location from the registry
2- hangs? spacedock?
.. weird... you got other stuff running in background?

Strange. There is no reason for slowdowns at those parts of the game.

*shrug* OP+ is still OP+.. 3.3 worked fine, right? I don't know why 3.4 wouldn't.

I have a general OP+ question.  What is the difference between the + refit and the R refit?  Just looking at the fed CL+ (YFA 2268?) and CLR (YFA 2275?), I don't see any difference.  The text claims that the R refit is a dronerack refit of some sort but the G rack has no extra capacity between the 2 ships.  So, how is a ship 7 years older any better here??

The R refit has more reloads for the AI.

Confirmed. Reloads. Makes no difference for a player..
but for the AI.. .. it really helps the ship to have that 1 more reload: from 8 total drones to 12.

It also is a plus for GSA campaigns where ships are resticted to stock drone loadout....

it may *SOUND* like the 'R' refits are a useless feature, but it's actually pretty handy. It's the general Year 2275 (Y175) refit that all drone-using races get in SFB.

Sometimes, it's just an extra reload, but often it's an actual upgrade from a A-race to a C or B rack. Also, all standalone ADD6s (not those that are there because of the Taldren implementation of the G-rack) tend to become ADD12s.

.. and one other thing..
Know how AIs get fast or slow drones (seemingly randomly) on the D2? Is it based on the shiplist YFA? If that's the case, that pretty much helps the AI get more era-accurate drones for their ships.

While Bittorrent is currently known as one of the favorite ways to distribute warez across the 'Net, it's also use very legitimately by many organizations who are making various downloads available.

Here are some of its advantages:
1- a downloader also uploads, even while the file is not finished downloading.
2- The more you upload, the more you recieve from peers downloading.
3- Once you finished downloading, you can help everyone by letting the client running, letting other people download. Your bandwidth is added to the host's.
4- it works only on the specified files, and is not like other P2P apps where you pre-designate a download/upload share dir.
5- the files are CRCd. The torrent is CRCd. It is impossible to pretend to upload something that isn't the real content without the CRC check failing. For that to happen, you have fetched a file that was compromised at the source. Since the source is ME, it helps!

So!
If your buddy needs OP+3.4.. and he's complaining it's slow, hop on with the torrent and point to your completed file. You become a 'seed' and start making yourself available too, as a source for the duration. Your bandwidth is added to the server where I am hosting this file and things go faster.

Feel free to help out.  :D

You'll have to excuse my ignorance or not, but why doesn't the player get more or less reloads?  I am sure I don't know how these things work.  This what I saw.  I bought the CL+, 12 drones.  I bought the CLR, 12 drones.  It seems the CL+ should have less drones available to the player if the R refit for this ship is actually a refit.  Is it not possible to restrict the player to 8 drones for the CL+?  Just curious.

It is not. Buggy API sets the # of drones to *1* if you try to change the number of drones. This was never fixed: fixing the API would have meant a 20+mb patch with all the missions recompiled. Also, all player missions would likely have had to be recompiled as well to be compatible to the game, again.

If on the other hand you happen to fly something like a Battlefest where you are generated a ship instead of having one chosen out of spacedock, I do believe the drone loadout will be respected.
