Scheduled to be released in 2006 by Obsidian Entertainment.  You can hear the rest over at The Adrenaline Vault.  Now that is a game I plan on picking up.

I like the people at Obsidian, but I wonder if this is the best thing to have them work on NWN 2 before we've seen how they handled a project like KOTOR2.  Personally I'd like to see what they are able to put out and what their work is like before many other project are handled by them.  Of course they do have 2 years to work on NWN2 but...

Bioware handed Obsidian NW2 just like they did KotOR2. Apparently the two have a very close working relationship, and Bioware *will* lend a helping hand with NW2. Also, consider the Obsidian guys worked on some of the best ever D&D RPG's.

Yes, it would be mighty nice if Blizzard or [insert favorite 'S-Class' developer here] worked on KotOR2 or NW2, but those studios are quite busy with their own games. Osidian has fine credentials, and are about the best we can reasonably hope for, I imagine.

I know this is kinda OT. But Ann's Husband is one of the people working on KOTOR2. so I will buy the game, just to show support for her if nothing else. I do hope the new NWN game is a success, and I think It will be given the number of people Still playing the Old one.

Cool news.

We ought to find some way to keep up with the projects all the ex-Taldren guys are working on so we can check them out.  (Anne's husband squekes in via marriage.  ;)  )

Wow...all this backlash.  You should also recall these are the people that made lionheart, IWD2, BG:DA, BG:DA2, and FO:BHoS (well, sort of with the last one).

I have high respect for them, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather see Bioware at the reins until we see what sort of stuff Obsidian puts out.  Trust is good, trust with too much can be deadly.  I test project (KOTOR2) would be something that one would want to see how one handles the ball before trusting them with your entire offense.

I know some will leap to their defense and say KOTOR2 will be awesome and that it's the greatest game...but in the industry you never know until the game is actually out what it will really be like.  Obsidian is basically Black Isle reformed, but even so they are still finding out how they will handle this new way of being together and this new item of how to handle items without Interplay.  I'd personally like to see what they do with the ball before turning a lot more over to them.  By the time they finish KOTOR2 and we see the results, it is likely they'll be hip deep into NWN2, which would make it if they create a fiasco out of KOTOR2 (which I think is unlikely, but one can never tell) a lot harder to give NWN2 to someone else.

I understand WHY it was done, perhaps Bioware had additional pressure from Atari (plus bad experience working with Atari from NWN and Atari's messing with the game via CD protections and other inane items), but also they have a full slate themselves currently, but I'd still have liked to see the Ball in Bioware's court until we see what quality of stuff Obsidian puts out.

I hope all of the Games are successes Bro.

I'm sorry I didn't mean any kind of Backlash, even though I don't see it here.

Get a grip Dash. As if we or you have anything to do with who works on what.

I wouldn't consider anything that has come out of IP in the past two years any how related to the people at Obsidian; considering how desperate Ip is/was desperate for cash to stay afloat.

If you want to bitch, lets bitch about Bethsaida doing the next FO.  ;)

It's not complaining, it's just I wouldn't be too excited yet.  I've seen too many games that run on hype off of new start up companies that supposedly had a good background turn up really bad.  Naturally I'm always cautious...throwing all of one's eggs into a basket is usually not the brightest idea.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  Anyone recall Throne of Darkness by the previous guys who made Diablo (not all of them, but their main bragging point was that these were the guys who made Diablo...and though some like it, we saw how that game turned out.  It would have been uniquely interesting if they made ToD and then were given the rights to also make Diablo 2 concurrently...).

All I'm saying is that it seems a LOT Of trust is being put in to a start up company (and yes they are made up of Black Isle folks...BUT it is also a new company) which is as of yet...unproven.

Of course I hope all games are successes...just look at me as the voice of practical negativism and dour reality of most situations (though there are occasional surprises, which we can hope Obsidian is).

And there are quite a number who worked at Black Isle in the last two years at Obsidian.  Yes, I personally loved the BG:DA series, and Lionheart...but I  know most of the fans were particularly hateful of them.  Hence if they didn't like those...I'd be looking to see what is turned up from these guys and the public reaction.  I don't have control over it, but I suspect that there's a 50-50 chance that there will be grave disappointment over NWN2 if KOTOR2 turns out badly.

PS:  Plus I've known about NWN2 and the another D&D addition that has been talked about, BG3, for a several months now.  It's not like it's spanking new news...well maybe for some it is.  Look at me as the guy who seen enough disappointment to be a continual pessimist about certain things in certain situations.

Remember people Neverwinter Nights 1 had its share of bugs, and it's still not 100%.  Plus we've seen the last of the major patches already.  I like Neverwinter not because it's a great coded game, far from it.  I like Neverwinter because it is the first real attempt to bring D&D to our computers.  The way I see it Bioware could screw up NWN 2 just as easily as Obsidian can.  In the end we all will do what we always do.  Wait until it comes out and read the reviews from gaming sites and what our friends who already bought it before we decide to buy it or not.  I posted this because some people who love this game might like to hear the good news, and not to start a debate about how bad the games programmers are.  I hope that most of you feel as I do in that you are happy that this D&D style of game is doing well and we will get a chance to see and play more D&D type games.
