Well in the movies they have allways used impulse power to leave. And I do belive they used impulse power on Enterprise as well when it left the stardock for the first time. I dont think I have ever seen the thrusters used for manuvering at all but you would think they would use them.

Thrusters to leave space dock. Impulse is not reccommended. Seen that in Wrath of Khan when Lt Saavik takes the Enterprise out've dock

i thaught i read somewhere that this enterprise did not have impulse engine cause there did not existed at that time.

also during the 100 years after the first contact did the have ship with warp engine?.
it seem weird that the did not have ship before this enterprise.

Core: Some procedures aren't established yet. Basic safety - like only using manoeuvring thrusters (as opposed to the main sublight drive) to get you out of a comparatively confined area like spacedock - are presumably considered so routine that they aen't mentioned. Besides, if you used impulse to get out of dock - and I'm assuming you don't hit something - the backwash from the engines will probably damage the dock...

DonKarnage: It seems weird because it isn't te case. Earth has been using warp-capable ships for about a hundred years. The NX-01 is the first one to be capable of Warp 5. Most civilian vessels can probably only make Warp 3, with some faster military ships perhaps making 4 or 4.5. If I remmeber my warp scale correctly, Enterprise is therefore probably about 100 times as fast as most Earth civilian vessels of the same period.
