I like early. I like it that most ships have to slow below 31 to charge weapons. I like the ability of the G-CC out phasor most other CC's. ;)

Yup, exactly like the crappy G-PFT.

And the BDP, HDP, and CMP. The BCS is a non-issue as it has been restricted out pretty much.

I disagree about the HDP (and BDP). The main point is that carriers/PFTs SHOULD NOT FLY UNESCORTED!!!!!!!! One of my killer gorn fleets is the HDP, HDE+ and HDD+, which I believe is still undefeated in my direct tcp/ip games, nearly banned by my opponents... I can build an equally devastating fleet around the BDP...

I'll say it again: its Starfleet Command. Yeah, and as soon as I get a FLEET CONTROL that actually WORKS, where I dont have to constantly jump into other ships to make em do what I want, then Ill be happy to fly a FLEET FLEET FLEET....FLEET....

As it is now, flying a fleet, bah, might as well use a FLEETs ENEMA!

Nothing like spending serious cake on ships only to watch them commit horrific suicide.

BTW, not a knock at you, just at the Fleet controls. Having working fleets would rock.

I can make em work, yes its limited but they work. I continue to crush opponents who have not mastered (sqeezed the last ounce out of) the fleet controls... wanna see a fleet kill effectively? Come to GSA and look for StinkyDonutHole's Fleet Battles room.... (dontcha just love the nickname they gave me? ;))

Dang! forgot I cant host a room on GSA because I'd need to steal ports from my servers.

Try connecting to "frescos.dns2go.com" in the direct tcp/ip connection... I'll put a game up for a while to see if anyone joins...

Nothing like spending serious cake on ships only to watch them commit horrific suicide.

Not picking on you here at all AJTK, but this raises an interesting point for me.

This part bothers me, the game does not have to be about amassing enough PP to buy overpriced ships by way of forcing an OoB of sorts. Ships can be cheaper, the game should be about  the strategic taking of territory and good fun PvP battles without fear of being relegated to a freighter for the rest of the server.  Ship prices should still be enough to make losses hurt, but not that much. The game should not be about banking PP but rater good strategy and tactics. This approach will encourage PvP (wild fleet battles :D) and reduce the "hex-munching/PP-banking" oh-so-dreary part of the game...

A game about banking PP is a little too close to real life and a little too much like real work to make for a fun fantasy strategy game.

Not to mention Andys... The other bane of the ISChit! "Where did that base station sized Dominator thats at range 2 on our aft-hull come from?!"

What's this bug you have up ypur a$$ for the ISC anyway? They aren't that big a deal. Of course I doubt any of them would be worried about you anyway as you can't even spell plague right and probably spend most of your time trying to find the fire button on those over complicated control panels they have on those Fed buckets... :P

How is the BDP different than a PFT from a combat effective standpoint?  My main point was that Gorn tenders have little to no HW firepower as compaired to other races tenders and carriers. None of the Gorn tenders carries anything bigger than an F-torp, whereas the Rom for instance have a tender (KDP) with S-torps. Thus by having other races follow this moddle it would be easier to limit the PF/fighter cheese to an extent as their is a tradeoff one must make when opting for a carrier in that PF/fighters come at the expense of your motherships HWs.

Fine, I can build an equally nasty fleet around the PFT, I just prefer the BDP being a bit beefier. "Racial  Flavor", that's the way it is, cope with it by building effective fleets.
Gorns have waaaay more hull than Roms.  A lot of the Rom light cruisers are sick with the amount of weapons but survive the blast and a gorn will kill them in a knife fight, frail ships those Roms are.
You have added to my case that carriers should not fly unescorted - regardless of  race.

Yup.   I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that casual PFTs cause more balance issues that the full-time tenders.

I still think the game goes to hell in 2280. ;D

I can't see how. Not that I necessarily disagree that carriers shouldn't have escorts. Would love to see fleets allowed again.

Kroma,

PS, Bonk you take the HDP I'll take the KDP, see how much good that extra hull does you. <snicker>

Another key, which Bonk eluded to, is limited availability of some ships. Especially in campaigns. The Roms only had 3 D5 hulls, 2 of which were converted to NCAs. That would mean that they would only have 1 KDP, assuming that they wanted to use their last D5 hull for that purpose (which would make total sense). In a campaign you hunt it down and kill it.

The Feds only built the BCV/BCS classes to replace destroyed or badly damaged CVA hulls. A total of two were built, one of each class, and they took the place of BCH class ships in the production schedule.

Escorts were only built as part of a carrier group and never wandered about by themselves. That would mean an unescorted carrier was off somewhere else.

Bombarbment ships didn't roam around on patrol. They were assigned to planetary and base assault missions as part of a fleet.

Leader/command ships did just that. They commanded squadrons and fleets (depending on their class). During wartime they didn't go out on individual patrols.

etc... etc...

R-KCR's are conjectural  as the rom's never recieved a C-7 hull., but they are the mainstay of the Romulan fleet on D-2. I think there was only one R-KHK ever made to replace a dread that was lost.

Not that I am saying we should not use these ships, I was just noting a major difference between SFB history and the D-2.

P.S I think we have blown up more bombardment ships in the GW series on both sides than were used in the general war. ;D

Who needs a KCR when you can build and FHX? :)

Bonk, you gotta play Max's GW when we get it up and running.

I love SFB as much as the next guy...but continually trying to make SFC into something it is not (SFB) is both tedious and wrong-headed.

SFB is a good source for ideas and guidance, but at some point you have to accept that SFC is not SFB and move on.  In my personal view, SFB cannot and should not be the final arbiter in any SFC-related issue.

In the past four years, we've had these discussions numerous times.  Much of SFB isn't implemented in SFC or doesn't translate well.  Harping on the existance of "conjectural" SFB ships in SFC is also kind of silly in my view.  In SFC they aren't conjectural at all.  They have as much right to their existance in a given shiplist as any other ship ported over from SFB.  I don't remember any entries in the original manuals setting any of these ships aside as seperate and limited in nature.

That said, I prefer the period from 2271-2279.  Things always seem a bit more balanced and a bit more fun, especially around 2275 or so.  There are exceptions, of course...

...and when did the 2280's become the "advanced" era and rife with X-ships?  Aren't the 80's late era and devoid of x-ships in SFC?

Firesouls SFBish X1 conversions I believe.

BTW, aren't all SFB ships conjectural? As far as I know none of them have ever been build. ;-)

X-ships are supposed to come out in the 2280s as per SFB which is what we are using as the reference.  FS had placed them back 10 game years in OP+ thinking they would only show up in advanced era for GSA play.   This did not work as planned.

Thinking about it, the Taldren idea of banishing them to 2300 is not so bad :)
