Do your real life friends think you're wierd?
« on: July 23, 2004, 10:24:24 am »
When they find out that you have met in person people you've met on the net?  I've known people who met others online for less than noble purposes and yes, we poke fun at them.  I mean they couldn't get a date here in town so they had to find someone across the country.  There was one man who worked here several years ago who was always meeting women online who were going to be THE one!  After several weeks and visits he was on to the next conquest.

But actually meeting friends who you've conversed with for a long time in my opinion is different.  My wife and I have been on a mailing list for nine years now.  In that time we've met many of the other members.  We've been to parties in their houses and they've come to ours to visit.  The first time we had some of them visit the looks we got at work were priceless.  You would have expected us to have grown a second head or something.  They're STRANGERS and you're letting them in your house?  Nope, not strangers.  Just friends who we had never met in person before.

What brought this up is that Brother Mu and his family are in town this week and we got together for a nice visit yesterday.  Once again I get all sorts of strange reactions from my co-workers.

What have been your friends reactions to finding out you meet with online friends?

You know.  People you see at home, work, outside of the house.  Not on the computer screen?   ;D

OOO good questions!  As for the main question, yes, all my friend think that I am wierd but then on the same token they are wierd too!  HA!

As for people I have met:

Ferret (hee hee I "meet" him as much as possible!)
Hsta (XC bard), his wife and their son
Mars
Admiral Kirk (GFL)
....I am not sure if the last two ever showed up on Taldren or here but I have flown with them on LameSpy

Spoken to on the phone:

Sirgod (soon to meet)
Hawkeye Stonyface (where the hel is he anyway?  Is he OK?)
762
The Sea
and I belive I have spoken with Frey on the phone once before, maybe.

If I have forgotten anyone I am so sorry!
Aloha,

They don't think I'm weird for meeting on-line friends, they just get a little concerned that I might be going to meet an axe-murderer.

They think it's cool when I do things like that...which isn't very often.

I did have one real bad experience once, but nothing worth talking about now.

I have not had the pleasure of meeting anyone from this board, except jualdeau of course.  But I did take a day trip from Newport (when I lived there) to Baltimore to meet some folks I knew from another board.  It was interesting meeting people and seeing how they compared to what you imagined they would be like.

That's a good Question and I used to talk to him on the phone about once a month.  If not him, the Capt. Starkiller. The last I heard, He got his Divorce, and  Had a Uhm Plantation yeah that's It , a Plantation up in Oregon.

Yes definitely. :) But they love me any way.
I speak Klingon when i get mad.
I walk around in my boxer shorts in my yard. ( It gets too darn hot here in FL. in the summer)
And i buy my pets Christmas presents, and give them birth day presents.
I stay at home and don't work so i can be a house Dad.
I can't stand watching sports, And if it was up to me these guys would be paid as much as we are.
I like gardening and like to arrange flowers ( I'm 6"5 and weigh 250 lbs and ex military)
I'm absolutely terrified of heights. But i like to fly hang glide and fly ultra lites.

But then again I'm also happy as hell with my life, and i really don't care what anybody thinks. :) ;)
