« on: July 20, 2004, 09:38:47 pm »
1 With a slow cooker
2 a 2 or 3 pound roast
3 a bag of frozen mixed Vegies or you can make up your own
4 some corn starch for makeing a gravy
5 fresh Garlic or garlic pepper or salt

But without looking thru the cook book I kinda forgot the rest as I had not made any in a long time. So some one else finish it up.

Basicly Tim, what I do is to kind of  Season the roast, and Brown It in a very little bit of Olive oil (any Oil will work) , when it starts getting Brown that's when i add the roast to the Slow Cooker. with spices.

When It's about half way done, I'll add my Veggies (Lot's of potatoes and Onions personaly) and Let it finish. I do use Corn Starch or Flour, But only to thicken the Gravy for the roast.

It might not be Pretty, But It fills my Tum Tum.

That's pretty much my recipe..but I dropped the bucks on a big "church" cooker, one that's used for potlucks and such (hey, I'm Lutheran, I always have a fork in my pocket in case a potluck breaks out  :D)

there's two ways to do this...

1st) You Take the Wieght and subdivide this by the Coefficient of Pi, and Multiply that By the Average Cooking time given your slow cooker. then Take the number you recieve, and Multipy that by .66. This should give you an approximite time , Howver Mendelbracht set's May alter this by =/- 10 minutes. If this is the case use #2.)

2nd) Cut it in half and see iF It's pink still or done enough for you.

A good pot roast should take 2 to 3 hours, depending on size and cut of meat (leaner should take a tad longer)...if you are using fresh veggies, put them in an hour before your done..frozen, about 1.5 hours...

Experinece (I know it can screw up the food) counts, and believe it or not, altitude...when I lived in Denver, cooking times were much longer than when I lived in Michigan...boiling temp is lower at higher altitudes....ya just gotta learn what works for where you are.

Good Point Mike, I also look for some Fat or a Marble look to my meat, as It's the Fat that gives It the Flavor when cooking , No matter how It's Prepared.

to me Flavor is more important then the Cut.

I usually fill it with green beans, potatoes, two large yellow onions, and carrots, which I put in about 40 minutes before the roast is done (or 1.75 hours after starting).  I like mine done rare for the most part as well.  If I feel like spicing it up a bit, I'll put a green bell pepper and two jalapenos in the mix about 30 minutes before finishing.
