Going away from the TV characters into a completely new venue may be good for Trek.  At the same time though, setting it pre-Enterprise really limits the possibilities.

No good weapons,  no warp.  I can't see it having the same grand feeling that you can get with the newer Trek timelines.

Of course they will.  Because it will be a time travel episode.

Archer's father is out with his ship and runs into a temporal vortex that throws him into the future.  The humans are in a war with the Borg and because of the ability of the borg shields to vary and block any energy weapons from the humans, it is only through the use of the ancient projectile weapons the Archers father has that they are able to be destroyed.

At the end of the movie, he and his ship are sent back to their normal time but with advance knowledge that helps them expand human influence in the galaxy and develop trade routes.

I suppose my problem with all of this is that there isn't any consistency with what we are hearing.  Braga says it involves the Romulan Wars, but now Berman says it takes place before Enterprise.  It can't be both.

Consistency? From B&B? Please.
Only in America .....do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.

I had the Rom wars before the Enterprise series before I had It after. B&B.

Ya, I thought we heard that they were gearing this torward a Romulan war or something.  On the other hand, Enterprise is not (at least I don't think it is?) is not on the same time line as Star Trek that we all know and love.  The Earth-Romulan war was to actually take place right at the same time as Archers Enterprise show, but the Xindi and the expanse obviously show us that Enterprise is suppose to be another time line.  But now we hear that this move would take place "before" Enterperise.  The Romulan War and Enterprise are possibley on seperate time line, but they both still occur in the 2150's.

I don't know guys, I'm not sure how this is going to work.   ::)

What a LOAD !

What I would like to see would be Star Trek take on a movie or two with the focus on another race other then humanity.

Why can't they have a movie about a threat to the Klingon empire from some alien species where good ole Kang can take command and save the day?  Would be nice to see the "Bad Guys" become the good guys and save the galaxy from destruction.  I'm sure not ALL universe ending problems make it to the federation.

Or, a "Kirk: the younger years".

Or, Something about the Enterprise B or C......

The list goes on and on of what they could do......they just seem to be choosing the WRONG things right now.....  ::)

Last week when I heard they were considering the Earth Romulan Wars for a feature film  I got excited again.  Hope for a Romulan War arc is the primary reason I've kept watching Enterprise.

Then I heard a comment that Enterprise would not deal with the Romulan wars but the movie would......and also that the T.V. show and the movie would be unrelated to each other.  OOOOKKKKKKK.  Now I'm confused but still excited. :-\

THEN I hear that the stupid Starfleet Academy idea is going to be mixed with the Romulans War idea.  Crap.....well at least it's still about the Romulan war I thought. :-[

Now I hear that the damn movie will be a prequel to Enterprise......WTF!?!?  Now I'm pissed. >:(

Do you get the feeling that the people running Star Trek don't know a thing about Star Trek? :banghead:

No...I get the felling that these people egos are so huge that they "believe" that whatever crap they put out...Trek fans will just lap it up...

They wont stop until they run Trek twenty feet underground so it wont surface agian for another 20 years....

Well guys as it always is,     it's about making money, not what's best for Trek. Which is why if they don't please the fan base, it's doomed to failure.
Remember, the only reason Trek made it to the big screen in the first place was due to the success of Star Wars. Paramount already had the fan base support, so with the dollar signs dancing in their heads, presto, Star Trek the Motion Picture.

I'm gonna hope and pray they remain loyal to Trek dogma, and not end up putting the final nail in the coffin.
The Star Spangled Banner bring hither,
O're Columbia's true sons let it wave.
May the wreaths they have won never wither,
Nor it's stars cease to shine on the brave.

Actually, and just because I love to spout weird Trek trivia, Star Wars almost put the final nail in the coffin of the concept of a Trek movie.  ;)  Paramount had been talking about possibly making a film since 1975 or so, but actually thought that the success of Star Wars had stolen their audience, and that lightning wouldn't strike twice on a sci-fi movie.  It wasn't until "Close Encounters" hit it big as well that Eisner finally got it through his head that a Trek film might work as well.  ;)

As for the topic at hand, I would point out that we don't really know when the Romulan War happened.  The Treaty of Algeron that ended it has been fairly specifically tied to the year 2160, but the war itself could have happened at about any point before that.  That said, if this movie is to occur before "Enterprise," it can't be the Romulan War, because when NX-01 ran into that Jem'HadarBird in the second season, they had no idea who the hell the Romulans were.  Then again, maybe the "Romulan" War was actually fought with the "Remans," and the Romulans didn't even know about it...   ::)
