Can we expect to see some TOS or TMP stuff in the near future (along with the Sov)?  I'm partial to the TOS and Phase II Connies.

Well, TheStressPuppy (one of the Trekmods team) has already released the current Constitution and Phase II used in his TOS mods...  both are available at Fleetdock 13, along with a couple of his other TOS ships...

Also, at some point (and I do stress "at some point" ;) ), Dolph & the team have a bit of historical revision up their sleeves in regards to TOS ships...  at least one example of which can be seen at the Trekmods Homeworld forum...  :)

I see, thanks a bunch.  A shame that the Phase II Endeavour conflicts with the one in my fic.  I suppose this newer Endeavour could have been named in honor of...nah, I've said too much.  I also kind of pictured the Phase II refits as both a prototype to the TMP refit and as a sort of quick and cheap refit in the event a major war broke out, since the TMP refit could take a Connie out of action for up to 18 months.  Not exactly a good idea to keep your best ships in drydock during a time of war.

Yes, I'll stop rambling now.

Names and registries are a minefield, aren't they?  No matter what you try, it seems like you're going to conflict with something...  :)

I agree completely that the "Enterprise" refit was a bad idea due to the length of time it took--actually, my feeling is that the length of service enjoyed by the Miranda and Excelsior can actually be somewhat explained away by this.  Perhaps, after the experience with the Connies, Starfleet resolved to never have ships out of action that long again, and designed the Mirandas and Excelsiors in a more modular fashion for easier upgrades.  All that said, the "Enterprise" refit seems to have been the way Starfleet went, since every other Constitution we've seen post-TMP (which admittedly is only about two: the Ent-A/"Yorktown" and whichever one got toasted at Wolf 359) had that refit.  Thus, Stress and I have envisioned the Phase II only as the prototype to the TMP refit, and in fact as something of a failure.  (If you're interested, you can see my full writeup on the Phase 2 at http://www.trekmods.com/scripts/ship_description.php?id=75&mod=iaw.)

It's also possible, I suppose, that the length of Enterprise's refit was influenced by the fact that it was the first time it had been done--other refits might have gone faster once the procedures had all been worked out...

Just let me add something... it seems that theres some interest in ships from this era so I'm gonna say that theres a whole horde of FASA ships that are being worked on that hasn't really been mentioned on the site, WIP are available on our forum but they probably won't be released for sometime.

Oh no, I'm one of those people who bends over backwards to try and make everything fit.  My Endeavour uses the unsually high reg number of 1895 from the Trek Encyclopedia, but I'm willing to speculate that had she been lost (wink, wink) close to the launch of the Phase II ship, Starfleet might have been inclined to commemorate the loss and renamed 1716 the new Endeavour.  But, like you said, given how scattered the original reg numbers of the Connies are between the Franz Joseph tech manual and the semi-canon list from the Enclyclopedias, there's probably eight versions of all of the original 12 ships out there in fandom.

I missed this controversy, thank God.

I would, however, like to know the policy for using these models ... Does the author of the retexturing require credit in the mod "readme.txt" or would .txt files in the ship file be enough? Also, is written permissions required before d/l?

Thanks in advance.

Guess who's back...

Am I the only one who can't access pages 2 and 3 in the SFC section?
