Topic: Quicktime mp3 to Windows Media Player mp3

Hey guys,

Recently, I aquired a couple of mp3's that were sent to me in Quicktime format.  I would like to convert them to Windows Media Player files, but do not know how to do this.

Do any of you?

MP3's in Quicktime format makes no sense. MP3 is a format.

I assume you mean a music file in Quicktime?
Even that is unclear: Quicktime handles mp3, mp4, aac, mov, wav, aiff, avi, etc..

What exactly was sent to you?

The files have downloaded as mp3's.

Windows Media Player will open, but will not run them.

So, by right clicking the file, I've used "open with" to run it in alternate media programs.

Through brief trial and error, I've established that the files run as Quicktime files, and I want them to be playable in Windows Media Player.

Hmm, try an experiment.  D/L some other mp3's off the net and see if they run in WMV.  If they do, it COULD be that the format for those files that you received recently is another format, but labelled as an mp3.  I've seen this happen, but the other way around.

Another thing that may have happened is that your Media Player needs to be updated.

Finally, I also saw a computer that saves everything as a MPEG-2 format for some odd reason.  Just some thoughts.

You say it plays using the Quicktime Player?

Open the file in question with Quicktime. Select "Show Movie Info" under the "Window" menu.
Quicktime will report exactly what the file format is.

Format seems to be:

MPEG Layer-3 Audio, Stereo, 44100 Hz

Will not open with Windows Media Player.  I want to convert it to a format that will open with Windows Media Player.

WMP should be able to play that file.  So should all other media players.  What exactly is WMP doing? Is it giving you an error message, or is it just not playing?  Will WMP play other mp3's?  Do what Jones suggested and test it with other files.  If it won't play them, maybe the codices are messed up, or the program is just broken.  Try updating or reinstalling the program.

Have you tried any other media players like Winamp or Musicmatch?  If they'll play the files, then the problem is probably WMP.  If Quicktime is the only program that will play the files, then there is something queer about them. 

Try iTunes.  Anything that is compatible with Quicktime is compatible with iTunes, and it might give you more information about the file.  It should also be able to convert files into other formats.  If nothing else, you could burn the files to CD and then rip them again.

I play most of my mp3's in WMP format.  The only reason these tunes are not in WMP format is because they are not in WMP format.  Whoever made them in the first place created and saved them as Quicktime files.  My WMP is up to date and working fine.

Oh well.  I'll figure this out somehow.
