USS Reliant-E is ready for download
« on: July 16, 2004, 09:51:29 pm »
I have my cable back & I've uploaded it to the shipyards at my site, OP version is ready to go.

I've also created the specs for it, so that the hardpoints will all work right.

Please post any comments or bugs here, I'd like to hear your feedback. Thanks

SFC3 will be available soon

An interesting design.  This is by far one of the best design concepts for a CL off or Sov parts I have ever seen.

This is one great ship Joker sir.I have a question though. Shouldn't the Reliant ( any letter ) still be a Miranda Class ship ? My point being this.......The Enterprise ( TOS,TMP refit and A) remained a Connie till they were decomissioned. The Miranda class is still around in the TNG era so logically The Reliant ( any letter) should still be a Miranda Class .And finally I would have thought the Federation would never name a second ship let alone 5 varients  ::) Reliant, after what happened to the original ship. Just my $.02. So now I have the Reliant,Reliant A(P81),and this one.....Anyone up to designing the B, C, and D varients ?

I understand what you are saying, but disagree. that doesnt have to be a requirement for each ship, to stay within the class until that class is decomissioned. they can name anything they want, whatever they want.

Depends on who you talk to...

Enterprise went from "Starship / Connie" class in TOS to "Enterprise" class in TMP.  Ent-B was an Excelsior-class, Ent-C an Ambassador, Ent-D a Galaxy, and Ent-E a Soverign.

If I have concerns about the Reliant making it up to an E-model is why isn't Starfleet doing it across the board?  Farragut, Hood, Intrepid, and numerous other ship names are recycled from previous ships, but they always get a new NCC number and no "II - III - IV" or "B-C-D" treatments.  Enterprise got it for being the first (maybe only) of the Original Connies to survive numerous 5-year missions.

Meanwhile, the Sovvy version of the Reliant does look sweet...

I guess you missed my points. I agree with your thoughts but,The Enterprise remained the same class of ship till that class was decomissioned.Obviosly subsequent Enterprises would be a different hull class, because the Connies were gone. The Miranda Class is still in production during the TNG era so if you follow the guideliness/pattern established during the movies......the Reliant ( any letter ) should have been a Miranda Class ship right? And as for "Enterprise Class" its just a connie subclass. No one builds an entirely new class os starships just to decommision them. Brand new in ST IV,A mess in ST V,decommisioned in VI ? ::). There's no arguement on Jokers awesome work. Just the name and letter, it mirrors the big E .

IMHO

the "A... B...  C...   (etc)...."  thingy is more like a new "rev" lettering each time the ship was either refit, or replaced with a new ship that was being released as a result of any one of several reasons for the ships distruction.  In most cases the distruction of a ship is her final resting place.  Freequently this is done out of respect for those who died on board the ship  ( ie the RL  USS Arizona ).  There will more than likely never be another Arizona.

The fact that there has been additional ships named "Enterprise" has been more of a choice Paramount Pictures has chosen to make ...  one that has been well received...

Just my two cents worth.

AS for the model done here ...  I like it ...  a LOT !!

Well I just want to say thanks you all for the compliments,

As for the name, letter, & class. I just made it up, it sounded cool, I haven't given it a "class", just simply calling it a "Sovereign Style" of the old Miranda class, & gave it the name "Reliant" because The Wrath of Kahn was one of favorite ST movies. And the letter "E" just because the newest Enterprise is "E", I figured, Why not.

Keep in mind, its a non-canon ship, it can be anything you want  ;)  Here are the blank saucer textures if anyone would like to change the name for there own use.

(Just remember to change them back to .BMP format)

BTW: the sfc3 version is available at my site now

Saucer is same size as the Soverign, maybe a little smaller for sfc3.

But the sfc OP version was sized to be close to the stock fcl model

Yea I kinda guessed as to where the impulse engines would be if the whole soverign saucer was there, and measured from the tip  to that imaginary point and 420 is what I ended up with. Being next to a sov at 680 seems about right,  hopefully you agree, I also posted gallery's in a new thread so if you see them save the link cuz that's where the rest will go once I know how big they are.

Also, you  may want to add additional ambient lighting to the one texture that has not lightmap, as the torp tubes don't glow. Now, the rest of the ship has the entire hull lit to keep it from  looking to dark ingame, then you got the black pylon there which sorta looks a bit crud. I tried to get a few shots to show that in the gallery so you can see what I mean.

BTW: I tried that link, seen that there were supose to be some pics there but never seen them.

yea...try it again, they have a manual approval system where they spotcheck people  to make sure they're not uploading things like child porn or something. Remeber  you're seeing and index of photoalbums, not thumbnails. Yours is under the TNG album.
