  The Redneck Love Poem

Susie Lee done fell in love;

She planned to marry Joe.

She was so happy 'bout it all

She told her Pappy so.

Pappy told her, Susie gal,

You'll have to find another.

I'd just as soon yo' ma don't know,

But Joe is yo' half brother.

So Susie put aside her Joe

And planned to marry Will,

But after telling Pappy this,

He said, "There's trouble still."

You can't marry Will, my gal,

And please don't tell yo' mother,

But Will and Joe, and several mo'

I know is yo' half brother.

But Mama knew and said, my child,

Just do what makes yo' happy.

Marry Will or Marry Joe,

You ain't no kin to Pappy.
I'm a Man
But I can change
If I have to
I guess

ROFFL!!!

The sad part is I know a few families like that. I also know some that are even more screwed up. For instance, I went to school with two girls who were:

1.) Step-sisters
2.) half-sisters
AND
3.) cousins

all at the same time!!!

If you can't guess how this is possible, I willexplain it later.

Brother and sister marry, have a child together, and one had a daughter from a previous relationship with a cousin?

Brother and sister marry, have a child together, and one had a daughter from a previous relationship with a cousin?

Close:

Man marries woman#1 and has child.
Man divorces woman#1.
Man marries her sister, woman#2, and has child.
Woman adopts child#1, who is both her niece and step-daughter.

The girls are, therefore:
half-sisters (same father),
step-sisters (due to the second marriage)
and
cousins (daughters of two sisters).

Two brothers marry two sisters.  (No twins)

What is the correct genealogical name for the relationship between the children of the two marriages?  They are 1st cousins through both the fathers and the mothers.

Now, you see, this is why I'm so attracted to Asian women and latinas- no chance there for me to get together with someone I'm related to...

A very intelligent Causcasian friend once said to me, in an obvious effort to get my goat, that "All you Chinese guys are so stuck up proud that youre so 'ethnically pure'.  Hah- I've got news for you: all you Northern Chinese are mixed with Mongolians, Manchurians, and Turkic people; all you Southern Chinese are mixed with Polynesians and Europeans!"  Now he never mentioned to what extent in either case, but after we ragged on each other a bit, I went back and realized he had a point.  (To which, when I told him so, he just said something to the effect of 'Hrumph.  I know I'm right!')

So, CK, you're not off the hook yet, because, now, especially in the U.S., there's much "Chinese intermarriage"  (boy, how racist can you get, when you can make such distinctions among 'your own kind'?!!)  I'd assume it's similar for Koreans, Japanese, and all Latinas.  I just hope this doesn't make us all rednecks.

oh yes, i can be sure.  Except possibly for a cousin my own age, no one in my family has ever made it over there.  Had a couple ancestors in the civil war, but all of the people closely related to me have been farmers since way way back (not I, of course, or my parents), and had no sense of adventure or desire to explore the world.  I cannot speak for what Chinese people are doing, but I can say they have not mated with my family...
Well, maybe my uncle in Vietnam, but he's dead, and not many Vietnamese that I've met in MN.
