Good ol summertime The time for exploding streets again
« on: July 15, 2004, 03:25:41 pm »
Had our first street explode here in wichita this summer because of the heat. good thing nobody got hurt this time. Last year A part of the main drag thru town exploded in front of some peoples car sent them to the hospitial.
And yet our city government seems not to be able to allocate enough money to properly fix our streets, but can perpose tax hikes to build a new arena downtown, instead on renovateing the one we got, and can give tax breaks to busnisses to help them rebuild, and spend money to get a new city manager+ give him about 7000 extra in perks on top of his 155,000$ a year salery

Khalee, what does a Wichita exploding street look like?  Do you you know of any links to pictures?  I have never seen an exploded street except for the leaky gas-main type.

Well from what I understand to relieve pressure streets are designed to expand sideways, but when they can't and the pressure gets to much they expand up wards, which sometimes is not a good thing as the street just cracks and there is no way I guess to tell when its going to happen.

The interstate here in Vicksburg likes to do that on occasion.

Basically it just throws chunks of concrete in the air and leaves a big rough hole in the road.  If you happen to be driving by it when it happens, or right after it has happened it can damage the heck out of your car.  It's good for ruining tires, wheels, front ends.
