Voted the obvious, but in defense of the stock missions, some are okay.  They do make a nice change.  I do like the newer ones, but I wouldn't drop all of the stock ones, simply try to add some of the better ones to the mix.

I am *loving* the stock missions on LB5.

I was the biggest fan of Evil Dave's new missions, even back when they were *really* evil, and I earned the ire of many for fighting to keep them hard.

But LB5 missions are proving to be a great change of pace, and a <bleep> of a lot of fun. The never-ending streak of fleet missions in the last few servers had worn on me more than I had realized.

With the current nostalgia for Articfire running on the forums, LB5 couldn't have come at a better time.  It's the closest thing I've felt to AF in ages.  Stock missions, meeting people online I've never met before, and constant chatter on race chat because I have no voice coms.

I'm not saying I think every server should use only stock missions.  Certainly not!  Evil Dave is a must.  But this one was the right server at the right time for me.  And I do realize I'd like more of the missions on serious servers to be stock than have been in the recent past.

Most are good, but a couple need to go... such as the mission where there is a wrecked freighter... but everything else is good :) smaller download too :D

What might be an interesting indication to look at is whether or not the stock missions being used are more stable than the previous ones we have used.

Is there less drops, crashes etc?

They "seem" to be.   I also have not seen the double fighter bug (I'm seeing double right now, I'm drunk but that does not count).

My only complaint about the stock missions is they are dull, but the code seems to be very stable.  The stock misisons are open source, right?

I like the stock missions, the reason being i being on a 56K mdm is real tough to d/l. but to add a little spice to the game throw in a few of the "evil Davids.

Given the absolute choices I went stock.

I'd prefer a mix with say 60% stock 40% evildave/karnak to break it up. But 3 ships every time you pull a patrol is a time sink, and I still think fighting more AI is not the answer, but lower Plas BPVs and bring in ships at WSIII.

WSIII is not an option unfortuanately.

Mission times is not the only issue Gook.  As you like to say, "fun" is.  50-100 mind-numbing 1v1s a night is not fun for a lot of us.

I like your 60/40 ratio of 1v1 versus Dave/EEK ratio.

I love how stable the stoick missions are and the fact that I have not seen the double-fighter/weapons bug is really encouraging.  This is good news, hopefully the scripters can use the stock missions source code as a guide to hopefully kill these bugs.

The poll was too black and white, should have made it a little more "grey."

For future servers, we should try to keep the downloads below 7 MB.   A 7 MB download is resonable for the 56Kers.

Not really, just keeping it low cuts down on the size of the download.

Just curious as to people thoughts.  For future research.   No flames please.

I'd think it would have been better to ask if people like stock missions or EEK/NW/TG better.  Putting the question within the context of LB5 makes it more like a referendum on LB5 and people can conflate liking LB5 with liking stock missions on it.  Had there been non-stock missions on LB5 and you had asked a similar question about non-stock missions, I think you'd have alot more positive votes than negative votes.

Boring misisons besides, I'm having a blast on LB5.

Thank you Alliances for showing your "A" game in week 2.   This should be nail-bitter.

Back on topic.   i am really glad that Fluf used stock missions on LB5.   If for no other reason, it shows how stable and bug-free they are compared to the modded missions.  I hope the scripters can compred code and see what went wrong.

Actually diehard... I would say you could download about 20mb or 30 mb in the time period of a movie.

So I would say anything less than 30mb is good for me :)

I like seeing solid stock patrols, convoy raids, etc.

The "buggier" missions like Ambush of player (no captures), Freighter Wreck (drawing allied players as enemies, only useful for a server with Hexx on it), etc. need to go.

Occasional (more like 20%) ED / TG / EEK missions to spice things up would be nice.  Adapting the AI-stripping to some of the stock missions would also help.

Personally, I would like a mix of both.  I really do like the stock missions, as they are usually quick and when you are doing hours of hex flipping its nice to have them quick and painless.

However, I do think a 60/40 mix should be used.  I intended to use a few of Karnaks on LB5 if he had finished them before he went on vaccation, but alas it was not to be, and I wont have a buggy server.  I want some of the complexity that NW puts in his, and the AI stripping that Karnak does, and I like some of the neat features that TraceysG's do, like the medals and such.

Given a little more time, I think all the scriptors will get things going in the right direction again.

I have to say after all I had read, and had been told how everybody hated stock, I am suprised in one way, but in another I am not, there are many who never post, but whose views are equally valid to the most ardent poster here.

In view of the Poll results I think that Admins and designers must take this into account, and whereas I had proposed a 60/40 split, perhaps 70/30 would be more appropriate in view of this plebiscite.

Then enters the dbl-fighter bug. Until I get back on my shiplist config. project for EEK missions,  you can only have it one way or the other.

My general assessment is that the current active scripters are burnt out.  After approx. 2 years of consistent scripter support to the community when the Patrol bug was squashed to the full-bore dev. mission packs that came out after AoTK, the strain is showing.    Perhaps, the community has become over reliant on volunteer scripting but I saw it turning into a P/T job that sometimes would sometimes consume approx. 20 man-hours a week.  If stock mission take the pressure off then it's a good thing, IMHO.

As for the poll.  I'd prefer if EEK missions be made an separate option in all future polls. Admin. feedback I always consistently got was that they were as solid as stock except for the dbl-fighter bug.  This poll blurs those boundaries and I am not happy about that.

Yeah, the poll is worded kinded of silly.   I should have made it more "grey."  My bad.

I put ther poll up because a bunch of us were bitching on TS about how dull the stock missions were.  I had just run a Deep Space Patrol whcih had been about a bilion times more interesting than the last  It was never intended to be used as a wedge against any scripter.

That is true Karnak.  There are only 2 bugs in the EEK mission that I know of:

1.  Double fighter (double heavy weapons was fixed a few pathces ago)
2.  Alliances get hosed when a player drops (Stock missions do this as well, ED do not).

Get those 2 bugs fixed and they are perfect from a technical standpoint.   They already are more interesting than ruynnin 30 1v1 patrols in a row.

By 60/40 "stock" I think most people mean they would like to see a 1v1 patrol appear 60% of the time.  This need not be a stock mission.  Write an EEK patrol that is a 1v1 that shows up more often that the 2v2 and 3v3.  Should make everyone happy.

Whenever there was a "host left" message, you had to watch out for double fighters.
