Well, do you? I've just finished "Rebel Dream" by Aaron Alliston. Loved it, actually.  What do you guys think?

For those of you who don't know,

The New Jedi Order starts off 25 years after Return of the Jedi.  Luke Skywalker has successfully started up the Jedi Academy (which is flourishing), Leia and Han are married and have three children. The older two (16-18 through the series I think) are Jaina and Jacen, the youngest is Anakin.  Mara Skywalker (from some other books, as well as the Jedi Knight games I believe) is there too, and pregnant with the Skywalker's child (Ben).

The Yuzzhan Vong have invaded the galaxy by means unknown.  They do not use technology as we know it, but use all biological technology, even their capital ships and fighters are organic.  Oh yeah, and they don't show up in the Force.

Violence ensures, as the Vong capture world after world and the New Republic continues to ignore their presence.  I won't give any specifics, but we'll just say that Courasant isn't what it used to be.

I completely and utterly reject the New Jedi Order series as rank dog feces that is not Star Wars in any sense of the word. Far worse even than the mediocre Star Wars fiction that preceded it.

The best Star Wars fiction is in the games and movies (including the microseries by Genndy Tartakovsky) in my opinion. While I consider no Star Wars novel I have read to be truely 'great', the best I like thus far is Timothy Zahn's triology and the Shadows of the Empire (based on a game, incidentally.)

Well for 1, the game was based on the book. Which books were Zahn's trilogy, BTW? Was that "The Black Fleet Crisis"?

Also Specter of the Past and Visions of the Future.  I dont read the NJO stuff - too costly to pick up so many series that seem to be going on all at once.  When i get enough $$$ on hand to get 30books at a time, i MIGHT move into NJO reading.

IF Lucas were to give the right for SW EP 7,8,9 - i hope Zahn's series becomes it.

I'll gave to read Zahn's series when I finish NJO.  And for your refernce, there are like 20 books in the NJO series. I typically buy two at a time.

I loved the New Jedi Order series, the finest star wars book ever written is in there, "Traitor" (make sure you've read ALL of the previous books - including the one set between EP1 & EP2 (I forget the name, something Planet I think, or you'll get completely lost). My only major criticism is what they did to Anakin Solo, they built him up over the first half of the series, and then killed him off, for no real reason. It made the death of Chewbacca pointless as well. His death was what made Anakin grow up and begin to live up to his potential, and then they got rid of him for no reason.

It's strange though, the best character in the entire series is Nom Anor, and he's supposed to be a bad guy....

Indeed, I was reading your text and hoping you did spoil anything, but alas. I have to disagree. I think that in reality, Jaina made Anakin's death senseless. (Re: "Dark Journey"). THought I'm still waiting to see how she turns out. (Just finishing "Rebel Stand" tonight I hope).

BTW, I'd have to say the 'best' (ie my favorite) character is Jag Fel.  He's the man! If I grew up to be like him, I'd be quite content with myself.

You haven't read the Force Heretic series yet, that's where Nom Anor really comes into his own.

You'll be onto Traitor next if I remember the order correctly.

Ah, Destiny's Way, another excellent book, one of the 4 "major" books in the series (Vector Prime, Star by Star & The Unifying Force being the other 3)

I didn't realize there were 'Major' books. I wanted to pick up both Traitor and Destiny's Way tonight, but I could only find Traitor. I guess i'll read slow until I find the next one somewhere.

Also, because someone asked.
