Freighters, large and small...
« on: July 07, 2004, 11:34:06 pm »
I've been working on freighters for OP+. I've had to update a few, and create some more to get the models I wanted. As usual, I'm sharing with you what I completed:

Federation Freighters:
Federation Freighters are popping up with TMP tech in TOS era with OP+. Had to fix. Found appropriate freighters on SFC2 War Refit site: http://members.fortunecity.com/sfcspacedock/federation.htm

Klingons Freighters:
The Taldren models are inapropriate, imho. Had to replace. Came accross Desty_Nova's work, and updated the textures. The pod itself is recreated since I used the pod from the tugs I have.

Large Klingon Freighter:  http://klingon.stasis.ca/models/klingon/fs_kfal.zip

Gorn Freighters:

Thu11s' freighter is a perfect large freighter. I created a small freighter to go with it.

Hydran Freighters:

Thu11s' hydran freighters are perfect for the job. Both the large and small are available and already made which made my life much easier.

Small Hydran Freighter: http://www.feralyards.co.uk/races/hydran/hfas.html

Lyran Freighters, including LDR:

Again, thu11s came through with some nice models.

Small Lyran Freighter: http://www.feralyards.co.uk/races/lyran/lfas.html

Large LDR Freighter: http://www.feralyards.co.uk/races/ldr/dfal.html
Small LDR Freighter: http://www.feralyards.co.uk/races/ldr/dfas.html

ISC:
I found the Taldren ISC freighter to be ok. After looking at the model long enough, I found a nice and quick way to make a small freighter from it, chopping off from the middle of the model.

Large ISC freighter: See SFC2's IFA
Small ISC Feighter: http://klingon.stasis.ca/models/isc/fs_ifas.zip

Mirak:
Ok. So I was lazy with the Mirak. The Taldren Freighter will do fine for the large freighter. I had to kitbash a small freighter from it.

Large Mirak freighter: See SFC2's ZFA
Small Mirak freighter: http://klingon.stasis.ca/models/mirak/fs_zfas.zip

Romulan:
Again, I just used Taldren's freighter for the large model, and had to make my own small version based on it.

Large Romulan freighter: See SFC2's RFA
Small Romulan freighter: http://klingon.stasis.ca/models/romulan/fs_rfas.zip

I hope, with this, you see that I have continued work on the mod, and certainly have not been idle. ;)

I think the only SFB Freighters are the ones listed for the Federation. I believe all races used something LIKE that.. but that''s not right for SFC, imho. I think it's better to have various freighters, continuing what Taldren started.

Thanks for sharing. These will help make convoy raiding far more interesting. An often overlooked set of models but they are often named in a variety of scenarios so they will be very useful.

Fantastic!! I, too, like the Romulan...in fact, can I do a re-texture on it? I think that would make a cool Pirate ship...large enogh for a lot of loot, and after a re-fit, could probably make a good fightin' ship. ;D

I merely took the Taldren one and changed a few things. However, if you want to do something, feel free to do so. ;)

*shrug* .. does it matter? I fully expect TMP era freighters to still be using TOS tech..

I doubt the freighters get the same attention to upgrades and new technology that the front-line warships do. I'm sure the old Ptolemy tugs and all those other early era hulls would still be in use for a long time.
