Like physical carmas that you drive, I find it's often better to give them a crappy Karma rather than no karma at all. You know...pink door, blue door, white body. Rag for a gas cap, coat hanger for an antenna that fell off so now you're using a paper clip where the coat hanger was. No mirror on either side, but they have a compact tapped to the dashboard...trusting to the plastic jesus bobble head doll to see them safely through every merge.

Funny until a guy really does freak out. Happened on our (unmentionable) forums.

He went berzerk on a guy named Rukus who played the (unmentionable) D-3 campaign.

The Knight trainee was up all night,calling his ISp. He thought the guy was invading his machine.

This reqruit posted our forums, paranoid, vanished and left the D-3; never to return.

Not kidding.

Dude, I need to remember this thread for all the times when we start an IP game and I can't remember my IP to give the guys trying to hook up...

Oh, and anyone who obsesses that much over this kind of joke better learn better fast or not ever, ever get on the internet.  It's just a dangerous place out there!

He he he, I agree.  I posted that character in another forum a while back.  The people there acted like I just grabbed a hand-grenade, pulled the pin and threw it in their living room.  Funny stuff, though I have to admit for a minute I thought I was going to be banned over it.   ;D

I object to this and I'm no noob. What other info is that script collecting and saving? Do you really know? I guess if you can't see the potential for datamining there then I guess I'll just have to disable images when browsing here.

Dude... no more chance of data mining than any other image.  You looking at my avatar?  That is hosted on my web server here at school.  If I really wanted I could log all the traffic and watch for those hitting that object, and make tables and get IPs.  Big deal.  I am a networkl admin and I will tell you right now, you are far more likely to get hacked for playing a game of Warcraft 3 than loading a picture.  The fact of the matter is, that pic is only showing what you tell it.  It is only saying what you broadcast everytime you go ANYWHERE on the internet.  It has no more power to "data-mine" than any other pic on this page.  But thanks for playing.

I understand the situation fully. (Check my homepage link - I host it...) Yes it does, a script-behind image can collect more data than a simple image. A simple image with no scripting behind it does log the IP and referrer and OS and browser (depending on your server log settings) as asny requested file does. However I'm confident that I can come up with a gd generated image that collects more than this and could report it to a central server, e-mail it out... whatever..

If you did not write the script generating that image then you do not know what else it may be doing. Did you write the script? (Not to be contrary here - just want to talk it out...)
