Fed DE game balance
« on: June 29, 2004, 10:27:16 pm »

So I recently had a few battles involving a Fed DE and no carries.

Is it me, or in this case the seperation of G racks into ADD's and Drones extremely unbalancing?

I suppose these ships with 4 true G racks (can't fire ADD's and drones in the same turn) would still be evil (in a black magic sort of way), but the ability to pump out 4 drones AND have 4 Add's. (Not to mention the gatlings) => gads!

I suppose I should just dive in to the spec file and pull out a few ADD's and drones. I mean, this ship should basically be a DDG with a few PH-G's replacing P1's.

Thoughts?

Federation escorts are un-balanced pieces of crap and are restricted from general use on most servers.   The SFC translation of the G-Rack makes it toughter than it shouldbe for it's BPV.

What we did in SGODev was replave the G-Racks with F-Racks and left the AMD count alone.   Not perfect, but better IMHO.

F-racks. Not a bad idea. It's way too late for me to go in and apply this change, but that should work well for you.

I am warming to the F rack idea.

But I am really leaning towards starting with a DDG  and converting the side P1's to PG's. (this also reduces the shuttle count appropriately)

Proposed fix......use AMD controls to toggle Rack/ add fuction.....lock out either for one turn if other used....turn off AMD's for full time rack function....seems pretty damn simple ...dont it...

Need a laugh?...me too....cuz we almost had this fix.....you connect the dots...

IF...and that is still a big IF...the code is released....this could still be done...

Or do what we did with the DIP list and raise their BPV so they are classed like they should be for their combat effectiveness.

And lets not get into the G-Rack debat again!  Nanner and I didnt speak for a year after this!  ;D

It is my most humble opinion that even if the Fed DE and DE+ had true "G" racks and not the SFC "A Rack + ADD", the ships would still be very unbalanced. The basic problem is that a destroyer with 4 drone racks is a drone chucker, and the feds (quite frankly) are not Mirak.  >:(

In general, this is also a case where the powers that be just willy-nilly added a whole-bunch of big systems  >:( to ship that probably was cramped to begin with. (note that the Fed DE also has a 4 slot shuttle bay)  :police:

I have now decided to do the following for my personal shiplist:
Fed DE: Take a standard DDG and change the 4 side P1's to PG's.
Fed DER: Take a standard DDL and change the 4 side P1's to PG's.

Note that for the DER, the ship has no drone racks or ADD's. But these ships are nominally placed on the Romulan border where Plasma F's are far more important. Both DE and DER would carry two shuttles base and no deck crews.

Lord Shutpp (pardon spelling) released a really cool Aegeis fed DD (A Saladin derivative with a sensor dome above the impulse deck) called Pegasus. (just do a search in this model forum to find it) I am now using this model for the DE's.  I am thinking of some custom specs for a DEA to appropriately use this model (I am thinking take a DE and adding special sensors and double drone control - maybe adding an extra tractor)

Your milage may vary.

And if 100% bug free, would have my total support

Was this going to be done with the same wondeful code that broke I-Torps in EAW?
