If I was going to pick this game up should I grab all the expansion packs or just the basic set?

Wow, I'll have to slap the 42 disk in when I get a chance.  I tried to ge the starwars one to work early on, but I just couldn't connect to a server and there were no people on playing it (although early on in it's creation so problems were kind of expected I guess).  DC was an incredible mod, I'm gettin' lonely for it.  Maybe I'll catch some of you guys on.  As far as other locations, I think they should be available from other places, they usually have their own websites with mirrors (I think I got the SW one off of another site)  If the starwars mod in question is Galactic Battlegrounds (I think that was the name) then a quick search should yeild something.  I'll be checking when I get a chance, that's for sure.  If people are playing it, I'd love to give it a try.  It looked awsome so very long ago.

I think i may have found a link that you can download it from:

First you have to download the main client:

http://www.gamingasylum.net/file.php?id=264&download=now

*it should auto start if not after a while, click on the golden download now button* it should be 464.86 MB

Second you have to download the latest patch:

http://www.gamingasylum.net/file.php?id=287&download=now

*it should auto start if not after a while, click on the golden download now button its 82mb, and should bring your version to the latest one*

Hmmm... there shouldn't be a password set for standard entry.  There is however a password set for reserved slots, the server might have been full and you were trying to get into one of the 2 reserved slots.

Errrr...I have to admit to liking to play a combat engineer, choose an objective I figured the other side would make a grab for, heavily mining it and then camping in a nice secure building and take shots at people trying to get through the mines.

What really annoys people is if you set up mines around a vehicle you think the enemy is going to try to use. Highly amusing getting yelled at when they blow up. (Some of the kiddies actually think that's cheating...odd.).

On the other hand,if I wander around too much I get nailed...really easily too.

OK, I've been playing around with the Starwars mod, and it kicks butt.   But why, I wonder, are there never any Trek mods for these games (and this one in particular).   I think some folks around here should get together and pump out a rockin' BF1942 mod that would put Elite Force to shame.

The BF42 expansions are good, I'd certainly buy them now since they are cheap. ($10-$15)

Also get the community map pack winners, I think you can get them off of EA's BF42 site.   If you can't find it let me know and I'll post a link.  There are plenty of other good maps around if you can find a server running them.

Everyone is welcome to stop by 30+'s Old Guard server, at 66.98.158.91.   We usually run BF42, but we are going to start hosting open Battlefield Vietnam nights on Tuesdays for those of us who like to play with helicopters and punji sticks.   Feel free to stop by if you are in the neighborhood.

Just got the whole thing reloaded and patched.

WT noted that the game isn't that good.  In a way he is right.  It certainly is NOT the realistic FPS of R6 and RS nor is it a decent flight sim.  But it is what I hoped TF2 would have been (anybody else here use to be addicted to TFC?).  BF42 is something between Quake and R6 ... it is a blast to play, pretty damn simple, and it encourages a large number of players to be online in the same room.  Those pluses make up for the lack of realism.

Kim, is there an SSCF server still?

Geez, been thinkin about a Trek mod and all the possabilities (have to throw some SFC style stuff in there like fighters I would imagine).  Even started thinking about an "Arena" map where you start with only a knife and have to find weapons about, and it's old school feds vs. gorn.  lol. (or you could just keep it a knife fight I suppose).  Anyway, I think a Trek mod would Rock.  Imagine standing on the bridge of a starship and taking the controls as a bunch of crew made their way to the docking bay to launch their fighters.  A Klingon landing shuttle pops in the bay and unloads a bunch of warriors and they make their way to the bridge, taking command of the ship and everything.  That would rock.  There are just too many things you could do.

Well, looks like no XP for me.  The copy I have was bought by my dad off of eBay as a 451 mb download.  Everything seemed legit, and still does, to the best of my knowledge, but his laptop does not come with any specific burning software, such as adaptec easy cd creator like my computer has.   Also, his XP system will not accept my CD of CD reator, and everytime I've tried to copy this stupid file it has left me with an error message and an unusable CD, so there is no way for me to transfer this file to my computer and use it.  No XP for me.
I HATE windows.

Can you strip away so we may start again?
Tell me, can you heal what father's done?
Or cut this rope and let us run?

I have a friend who was playing with a 32 meg TNT2, so the Radeon 8500 will be able to handle it.  Also, I've got all the expansions and Vietnam, so lets get some information on regular servers and possibly TS so we can all hook up.

I am assuming we are just using the TS server setup for SFC (there is a channel that has 1942 in the name at the bottom).  The info on it is here :

As far as servers, I've been hanging out on NVIDIA nForce3 GCO1 as it's runnin the Galactic Conquest mod and has a number of people on it most of the time.  I played some Coral Sea last night though, and am certainly open for pretty much anything when I have the time to play.

I'm play engineer myself.  What's really fun is creeping up on enemy tanks in their blindspots and setting landmines on their treads.  Another good tactic is making car bombs out of the jeeps.  Just drop all your tnt into the back and take off at your objective when you get close, bail from the car and hit the trigger.

You can also drop landmines while parachuting...that's pretty cool if you're aim is good.

But if you really, and I mean REALLY want to piss somebody off, knife 'em.

Heh, it must be the mindset of SFC players, because guess what I play the most..... Engineer. lol.  Love sneaking up on someone planting all my tnt on them retreating a bit and watching as I blow them up, mining a carrier or landing strip as I'm parachuting down, and all the rest.  Heck, I even like being helpful and repairing teammates vehicles.  (it also helps if you are flying because you can land somewhere out of the way, repair, and jet back out into action). :D

I just bought Battlefield Vietnam today, I won't install it until I get the new parts for my computer next week.  I was surprised to see that it required DSL or Cable to play on-line, glad I got Cable a couple of months ago.  It's also too much for my ATI 7500, which is why I bought an ATI 9800pro with 256Megs of DDR Ram.  Anybody know a good voice chat program, preferably one that is a free download?  Thanks.

To answer my own question, I started using Ventrilo Voip recently, it works pretty well.  There is a bit of a delay (1~2 seconds) from the time you start talking until the people at the other end will hear it.  Other than that, the program runs great and is easy to set up.  Best of all, the program is free.  If you are looking for a Voip program you might want to give this a try.

I forgot about this thread Grim, thanks.
