« on: June 27, 2004, 06:54:14 am »
My knowledge of computers is "non-existent" (LOL)....

Win Task 4....By Uniblue Systems, is it worth the money ??

Also they have a package deal for Task 4, Speedup My PC 2.0, Winbackup all 3 for ...$70.00

I'd appreciate everyones thoughts on these, the Task 4 and the speedup sound interesting....

I stay away from that kind of thing. If your windows system is choking up then its probably time for a reinstall. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself most shops will do so for a reasonable price (less than that software?).

I have like 38-40 processes running and I haven't the slightest idea what I should turn off w/o hurting my system.

I've heard if you turn off the wrong ones you may have to restore... :o

I thought the 1 program would help me decide which ones... :-\

Save your money.  Adding more crap to your system won't help....  Get Hijackthis ( http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip ) unzip and run it.  Save the results and post them here and we'll all check it and let you know what junk you can get rid of.

OK... It doesn't look like you've got anything that's obviously hostile here.

Now run Hijackthis again, go through the list and check all the Red things - These are junk, and while not harmful, they're all unnecessary and many of them are slowing you down.

Next see if you can figure out what any of the Yellow things are (note that the Fourm tags URLs in Mustard color; don't confuse that with my yellow) - I don't recognize them at all, but some of them might ring a bell for you.  I would remove these, too, and if you find some obscure app doesn't run any longer, just re-install it.  (Like, what is the 'Desktop Messenger' app that's hiding in your Logitech folder?)

Lastly, decide if you want to keep any of the Blue things, I'd recommend you dump them, but you may actually like these things (for instance, you have both Spybot Search & Destroy and Spykiller running all the time - dump 'em both and get the free Ad-Aware and just run it manually every other week.)  You may like your Yahoo! Toolbar, but is it really doing anything for you that's worth having it suck up CPU cycles?  How often do you /really/ use the Roxio Drag-to-Disk function, and is it worth slowing SFC3 down to have it run constantly?

All this makes no sense to me..... :banghead:

Did you check these items, then tell Hijackthis to get rid of them, and then run it again to verify that they're gone?
