Signature Sizes
« on: June 25, 2004, 04:34:36 am »
I've seen some really nice signatures by some people on this forum...

but i wonder if some are a little bloated.

I'm running my desktop at 1024 x 768 and I don't need  my screen taken up by a reply that might be two lines and the rest the signature.

I'm all for signatures but for the first time I've decided it would be better to disable viewing them altogether.

Now...

I want to see what the opinion of others here are.  I have seen it signature restrictions enforced on other message boards to good effect.

I disabled signatures because the are too big and cause pages to load slowly.

I can't even get mine to show up.I don't know if that is becuase they aren't useing the UBB thread software or style that Taldren was using which it made it easier to find your way around the boards and to see whos online.

I disabled Sigs, I did so at the Taldren board also.

Many of them were fantastic, but they distorted pages and added to page loading time, so it wasn't worth it.

And it would seem some where being used as bill boards. I'm not going to mention any names but to me it seemed inappropriate. :P

I hope my signature is not too unreasonable. I never used one at Taldren, as I never really found one that added anything. But, obviously, I believe the one I use now does enchance my current alias.

Maybe a limit to the pixel size could be included in the rules.  Nothing larger than 700 by 190 would do the trick, small enough so as not to distort the layout of the forums for the poor folks who cant afford better monitors and better graphics cards who still use 800x600

It seemed to me like it was abusing a privilege.

I remember I did a thread, and after ten posts, the thread didn't load for two minutes, as those damned giant sig guys made the posts.

I was glad Sirgod told me I could turn them off, it was killing me.

Usually you must host the image elsewhere, then use image tags.
