We have set up a Server Admins category with two boards:

D2 Servers
D3 Servers

These boards are meant for Server admins to communicate amongst themselves for any reasons, technical, to say hello and just talk, whatever.

You can now request group memberships in your profile through the "Group Membership" item under "Modify Profile". Please do so there as we will be phasing out these request threads.

Greetings -

I would very much like to have acces to the Server Admins forum. I've only just gotten back into D2 and OP and am running a "fun" server (un-modded) for EAW called "Fringe". I'm REALLLLLLLYYYYY impressed with how much work this community has put into modding and supporting these classic games - the OP+ ships (SFB) are INCREDIBLE and I'd like to get more involved.

ie - Would love to readup on how to run a modded OP server, the machine that's currently running my "Fringe" server has nothing else to do:) it would be awesome to put up a steady state "fun" OP server with all the fantastic ships.....

Just wanted to check - this is the group accessible from the top level of the forums - D2 Admins? - last post looked like some time ago... Anyhow, if you could confimr the forum locale I'd be most appreciative. I sometimes get lost in here

Also - I've heard that Firesouls OP+ ships/mod is the standard of play today. You know if he's packaged an installer (to put the mod files in the server side places they need to be etc.) ?? I guess this would be a good first post for the Admins forum. I'd love to setup a basic server using all those ships and modified mission scripts.

I'm sure I have to setup the new Won Directory addresses in server settings .gf same as for EAW, but wonder what other pieces need placing to run an OP server using Firesouls mods...

Yup, "D2 Server Admins" under "ServerAdmins Corner".

I always pull the files from OP+ from a client install for a server.

Directory server update, fighterlist and shiplist in specs and validatedclientfiles is the minimum and should be all you need I think.

No, it's not that bad - I'd just like to set up my missions so that a server admin can use their map to better control the nature of which missions show up where. E.g. knowing what the differences will be if they choose a terrain type of Asteroid 1 as opposed to Asteroid 2 etc, and getting a feel for some of the options and preferences there - lots of possibilities, but it makes more sense for me to ask them what they'd like before I blindly plod ahead and do something weird

Heh, I was thinking something similar to that, but more along the lines of clear out the people that haven't been on the boards in a while. No need to drive people away with that sort of talk though, if someone is truly interested in hosting a server, by all means request access.

Just to let you all know, due to the flood of those not serious about creating a server yet asking for access, and us having to prune those in the group recently, we will be a bit more restrictive with who comes into the server admin group. Remember this isnt a debate forum or anything, only for those serious about creating a server.
I am not.. repeat.. not saying that those who have requested access above this post are denied entry yet, just letting you know why when you request access you more then likely wont be seeing the fourms the next day.
We arent trying to push anyone out.. just trying to keep the Server Admin group clean

I would like access to the server admin group please..I read through a few more posts.. I understand your need to manage the group to keep it on purpose. To that end allow me to expand. I have already cleared the most technical issues. I have dowloaded and installed the EAW server and installed it and have it running behind my router and tested it this afternoon in the "out of the box" Binary configuration. So I am not only serious about setting up a new server I have the basics out of the way now I am looking for ways to make it interesting and customize it I am hoping that these server admin pages will be a great source and will cut down on asking questions that are already answered elsewhere. THanks
