I understand that this place was created by the hopes and aspirations of a small group of SFC'er's, but it's not the "official" new forums as far as I know.

My first reaction is that these are not the "official" forums because Taldren is not providing them.  They are, instead, the 'de facto' forums.

On the other hand, Erik did post that these would be the new forums; so if that constitutes an _endorsement_ by Taldren then I could see an argument that these are "official".

The Readers Digest version is that Taldren-California is no more.  Kaput, gonzo, washed up, shut down.  Which means the boards are down.  Theoretically some of the boards may be moved to Taldren-Korea.

I think this place will do just fine . I'll still support Taldren , but nowadays I just need a place to shoot the bull, hollar at conservatives , and have holes poked in my own fuzzy logic by smart folks on the other side of the aisle.  I like all these folks, even the ones I dont like

It looks that it is not going to happend in the short term, if so, why bother transfering the old database.
Anyways, it is good to see all the great effort put into this forums so as to letting us keep posting!!!

Just seeing all the old names pop up is a comfort in a small way. I wonder how many people changed their names?

Congratulations on the new forum, but you do realize that it was approved to be only a temporary place? I'm mentioning this because people there seem to be under the wrong impression that it's the new "official" site, even the moderators. I don't know how they could've gotten that impression.

I agree that this place has the potential to be a new thing in its own right, but the fact is that it's not the official new site...Taldren's original arrangement with this site was to house the old posts and to be a temporary place for people to meet until the new server is up. Why give this place all the old posts, you ask? Because none of the history of the old forums will matter at the new place. There has been no post by Erik or anyone else which endorses this place as thew new official site, as some people are claiming. In fact, towards the last hours of the Taldren boards, Taldren was deleting posts made by people from this site who were giving the mistaken impression that this site was the new official one.

Guys, I really don't think this is the official new place...it's maybe the official temporary fill, but it seems like the announcement at Taldren is asking people to WAIT until their new servers are up, and direct people here as a temporary site. And as for posts by anyone at Taldren saying that this is the new official place (as people here are claiming), I'd like to see such posts....because as far as I know there aren't any.

It doesn't say that a new taldren forum would support SFC, in fact, by the wording, it inferes a new begining, sans SFC.
I suppose we will have to wait and see, but it would seem to be really stupid to close a forum, turn over the info to another forum, than reopen and expect everyone to just move back and forth.

What's "Official"?  If a majority of SFC Players and Taldrenites adopt this forum as 'home', doesn't that make it Official enough?

To set the record straight here, since you brought it up, Cue -- and innaccurately, I might add.

STGD NEVER, EVER said we were the "new home." We offered a place to meet if Bethke pulled the plug.

I challenge you to pull the thread -- it was never said. Ann and I spoke about this on TeamSpeak, and she also conceeded that.

See, all this effort was done behind the scenes; those "in the know" knew, but the last time we talked the Frey, SFC3 was an afterthought.

The Bethke information was taken from H&S by SirGod, and posted in SFCII Experiances. I simply posted information in the General Forum for a place to meet if the plug got pulled, fast.

This forum was opened one week early due to Bethke's early announcement, which none of you apparently predicted.

Bethke had PM'd me the night of the so-called "spam" and said ALL the boards would be shutting down. Meanwhile, posters were in denial, so I shipped that PM to others.

Cue, with due respect, get your facts straight and stop trying to discredit the STGD.

We have offered a place to go when the plug got pulled, and NEVER, EVER said we were the "official" home of anything but Trek fans.

I work for the STGD, "officially."

Should you continue to discredit an organization -- Star Trek Gamers Directory -- that was here before Taldren was even making Trek games, we will have no choice but to pull support.

The Taldren closing has been a difficult time for all, but your disinformation campaign with the STGD makes dynaverse.net look bad.

Well I happen to know that IOGC.net offered to host the entire Taldren forum's in their original content. They offered to move the entire database to IOGC and let them be hosted there as they "originally" are or were. Why Taldren did not opt to keep there forums intact is beyond me. Allthough this new site looks like Taldren it is not Taldren. Taldren is closing and moving to Korea. Call the Fat Lady it is over. We might as well do with what we have even though it is not what we are used to.

Ok people, lets chill here.

Here are the facts:

1. This is the "Official SFC" site.  Erik authorized transfering the Taldren DB to this site in order that SFC survive.  If Erik wants to start his own Taldren Korea forums at some point in the future, that is his business and I hope he does.  However, as most of you know, Erik spent most of his time in the Hot&Spicy forums for the last year of the Taldren forums.  He might elect to start his own Taldren Hot&Spicey forums in Korea, although since we have these here, and he is a member of the site, he really doesnt need too.  

2.  The Dynaverse Gaming Group appreciates what the STGD did in attempting to provide a place to go if Taldren went down.  They didnt know that we already had things in place to do this, and would be transfering the Taldren Forums here.  I salute them for being concerned enough about the SFC community for doing this.  Once they were informed of the transfer, they have been very supportive, and we salute this.

Well, I for one am happy that the community has jumped all over this new forum.

As stated earlier in this thread I, with the permission from all of the founders of Taldren, worked with Dynaverse.net to get as many of the old posts from our forums over here for one purpose...So that the community could have a new home. These forums do replace the Taldren forums in the sense that there is no Taldren forum now and this forum has it's old posts.

Some day Erik may choose to do something again for Taldren Korea but he would never EVER want the community to be put on hold until he can. He also would NEVER keep the community form feeling at home here by telling them not to settle in and create roots because he is going to try and uproot them again someday. If and when he puts his new forums up they will be an alternative to these forums and yes, they technically would be the Taldren forums so there is some truth in saying that these are not the "new Taldren Forums". BUT ...does it matter if these forums are be called the New Taldren Forums by some people or even "the New home for the old posts of the Taldren forums", The Newest SFC forums or maybe even simply Bob? As many people have already figured out, the old Taldren posts are here and so are a great deal of the old members...so lets get on with getting over the name thing ok?
