hey, I currently only have EAW, not OP. My question is, what does OP add to the game that EAW doesnt have? I know that the pirates are a playable race, but what else?

OP adds a few ships to all the fleets that got missed in EAW, including X-ships(yuck!). Multiplayer, especially PvP, seems a lot more stable, also. The D2 has several problems that while not killing a campaign, make it less fun.

Right now, EAW is better patched and has the better servers. However, OP has the better engine. If Taldren ever fixes the problems with OP, it would very likely be the basis for a player modded GaW.

More D2 missions

More ships to select per race with some new weapons, like Maulers

WYN and LDR ships

X ships (it's a matter of opinion whether these are a good or bad thing)

The correct boom phaser arcs for Klingon and Rom/Kling ships

More Single Player Skirmish missions

More Multiplayer Skirmish missions

Bonus Pirate Skirmish missions

Unfortunately, the D2 for OP is pretty much broken, but it is being worked on as I type this and hopefully will be fixed before the year 3000.

Also there are no empire campaign missions for OP only Conquest Mode is available for them. The pirates have a campaign though. Firesoul was very nice and compiled the EAW campaign missions and the Bonus Sulu missions for OP however, so they can be added at no extra cost.

EAW has early, mid and late eras.
OP has those three, plus Adv era(more powerful ships).

hrrrmm, i went to my local Gamestop retailer (same as Babbages, Software Etc) yesterday and they didnt have OP.

Just SFC3 which i cant play yet :\ Sucks huh? I guess i'll have to find means to order it online or something.

I'd play OP exclusively on GSA if it weren't for the fact that SFC2 has 10x the number of players.

Did OP really sell that much more poorly than SFC2?

No, but gravity is in effect. And a lot of people who carried the OP flag moved to SFC3.

A lot of people who carried the OP flag got tired of waiting for it to be fixed. If it ever is, I know many of the supporters I know will flood back in, as it is prefered.

AS I understand, Articfire is pouring over the D2:OP codes. It will probably take him a while to get up to speed...

That means further delay for the OP patch.

So why not just release the EAW ported portion first (in the style of 20055) and follow up with another patch once articfire has gotten the D2OP straightened out?

A 2.536 for the EAW ported fixes, and a 2.537 after the D2 is fixed?

At least this way OP's multiplayer skirmishes (GSA) can get some playing time. (and OP's d2 will too once 2537 is out)

I agree EmeraldEdge, OP was a much better game and more stable engine then EAW. If Artic can ever fix the D2, I think it will be the platform that is the best in the series. Heres hoping he can fix it!

OP is the game that everyone SHOULD have switched to when it came out. It didn't happen because too many of the ladder match guys didn't want to mess with the X ships; that is they didn't want to "say no" to an advanced era match when they were challenged for it. Of course by the time SFC2 got finished with it (RIP Gorns, RIP Lyrans, RIP Hydrans), there wasn't much left of the ladder match community to matter.

Which is a roundabout way of saying that SFC OP is the better game. Just my opinion of course.

I my self like OP. There are to me more options with in the single game. Im not out to say EAW is bad. but for the single player I like OP better. I also like the AI in op it seems a little better. Try this some time. Go to skermash, take lets say a Z-DD, set it to Advance, and take on a L-XFF. you will be yelling MOMMY more times then you care to admit.

have you carefully run throught the "preowned" racks at EB?

if not, amazon, ebay, compusa... plenty of online sellers.

(pity CompuSmart is Canadian only. They are selling OP for SCDN 9.99. (which is less than 7 bucks US...)

OP is BY FAR the better version. I happen to -like- the x-ships, even though they're crap if the guy driving thinks speed 31 is a limit to live with. Anyway, I remember playing DarkElf, I think it was, in a KCR and he was in a Klingon X-cruiser, and <gasp> I won!!! Maybe once more people start playing OP, the Klingon X-ships can be worked over so that they don't get bested so easily by non-X tech. Never got the chance to tell him how good of a game that was!

BTW... any reason why we can't call the Klink 2X cruisers Fek'lhr's? I like the Op design better than SFC3's...

did I just hijack this thread?? sorry! Anyway, there's a GREATLY expanded shiplist/fighterlist out there -somewhere-, and I'd stick the link here if I could remember where it was in the old forums. But I've got it and it's got ALL the tugs, a Fed -beast- with 24 fighters... and some of the 1X cheesiness was eliminated! Someone's gotta find it and post it here!
