Well, starting to get back into it..
« on: June 15, 2004, 06:31:49 pm »
RL issues and mondo work plus getting a car on the road has taken a bit of time.. but I'm trying to make some time beause I'm getting stir crazy not doing modelling.

Here's something I did to test out a lighting setup in Max.    Shows one of my all time favorite ships.. (grin)

And I have another non-Trek ship in the works that's all mine from scratch.. and this is one talked about, but not done to date (as far as I know).  Screenies when I get closer to being done.  It'll also spawn another ship as well.

And finally, I've got all the projects on the new HD that I started before the break.. so those'll be moving forward as soon as possible.

Oh yeah, and there's a new monitor on my desk so that I'm not looking at everrything through an emerald tint..

So I've not totally gone away, just had some delays in things..

Hey, welcome back dude!! Can't wait to see your releases...a break often has the effect (for me at least ) of whetting your creative appetite...just be careful you don't burn out or strain your brain from doing too much. Time to get my new cable setup ready for even more d/l's!!

Thanks for the wb guys..

Just some teaser information on the one I'm working on now.. the ship is (canon length) 200 miles long.  Going to release a canon length and a massively scaled down version (for playability) in the final release.

Nanner, going to put up some screenies on your site there buddy?  .

I believe he is referring to the Doomsday Machine for SFC...

Yet another fine addition to the FASA Trek to SFC Collection Part II.

In the FASA Star Trek Universe a second Doomsday Machine was featured in the adventure module: A DOOMSDAY LIKE ANY OTHER.

Deja Vu.. :)

No, actually he is right... it is a one off.  ;)

Had a good long post on this last night, but to sum it up.. this one hasn't been done for SFC before, or really for any game that I'm aware of.

I'm doing The Ark from The Starlost, an early 70's Canadian scifi effort that was woefully unbudgeted and went only about 16 episodes.

But it had the star of 2001: A Space Oddessy in it, plus had cameos by John Delancie, William Shatner, and Walter Koenig.

Premise of the show, a 200 mile generational spaceship is the only remaining home of Mankind after Earth and the entire solar system has been wiped out by some disaster.  The ship has been in space for four hundred years, and unhelmed for three hundred of those years after an accident destroys the bridge.  Those left on the Ark don't even know they're on a ship anymore.  Finally three people discover that they have to try and get control of the ship in order to prevent a collision course with a star and to try and get the ship back oncourse.

Except they don't know where the backup bridge is.  They're technologically impaired.  The computer is malfunctioning.  Or yeah, and there's the small factor of one of the men is duty bound to kill the hero because our hero and the leading lady are in love, and she is promised in an arranged marriage to the first guy, who doesn't love her and would like to see the lovebirds get married.. but there's this duty and face thing...

But there's the basic plotline, and here's where the ship is now..

This one also is going to be kitbashed into another ship after this, the "Valley Forge" from "Silent Running", if I can find some good shots of the ship from that show.  :)

Hi Alec
 I remember that show I remember that John Colicos play some sort of roman leader in one of the biosheres
I probably watched quite a few episodes and the Pilot was written by Harlen Ellison If I'm not mistaken. The actor who Played opposite  Kier dullea ended up doing a news program in Ontario every time I saw his face I thought of the show.  ;D  Nice work modeling her will make a great looking freighter.  :popcorn:

Take care and be Well

Just copying my original post on this one in here rather than bumping the original post.. more expedient and also this way I get in the paraphrased synopsis that I posted of the series.

Btw, will be trying to get this finished tonight, along with the install of that Linux distro, and the work on the one for Nanner..

============= original post ==================================

Well, I don't know if this place'll let me post imgs or not, (think it will because I saw one a minute ago), but I thought that seeing we're dispossessd, this'd be the perfect time and place to reveal my new one.. an original one of mine based on a show.

============================

The setting.. it's a few years from now.  Earth is doomed.  The solar system is doomed.  Interstellar travel is here, but it's still sublight.  In a desperate bid to save the human race, 500,000 of the best and brightest people of various cultures and races are placed aboard the last hope of Mankind, and shot into the stars to try and escape what's coming.  The then the solar system dies.

For one hundred years, all goes according to plan. This generational ship goes out at 1/3c in order to try and find a new home for humanity.  The human race is now sealed in habitat domes, each several miles across.  Almost all the people now living on the ship were born in space, and they all expect to die in space.  But for some of them, not this soon.  An accident.  The bridge is destroyed.  The crew, the mission, dead.  But this is space, and the ship flies on.  Crewless, going somewhere unknown.

Three hundred years pass, and Earth is just a legend told to kids around a campfire. Nothing is odd about thinking of your world only being several miles across in a bowl valley.  All these little worlds, cut off from each other. Isolated and alone, hurtling through space.  To where?

Their ship is the Ark, and these are.. The Starlost.

==============================

Well, that's a general synopsis I paraphrased from what I remember of a Canadian sci-fi TV show a long time ago. It was the disowned brainchild of Harlan Ellison that only lasted 16 or so episodes, but the premise was cool.

Three Amish-like hicks from the sticks have to try and grasp that they are on a generational ship, their world, the only one they knew, was just a dome on an arm on this ship, and they have to save it and all the other domes as their ship is on a collision course with a star.  And they not only don't know where the controls are, but the computer is fritzing out, and they don't know where to find the controls.  Oh, and the ship is 200 *miles* long and somewhere on it is a small dome with backup controls.

Oh, and almost forgot, of the three, one man and one woman love each other.  But she's promised in an arranged marriage to the other man, who doesn't love her and she doesn't love him.  And he is duty bound to kill the first man, who is a good friend and who he'd like to see married to the woman who he doesn't want, but is duty bound to marry.  Fun times for all.

All that, and cameos by William Shatner, John Delancie, and Walter Koenig.. and not to mention no budget and bad acting.

There ya go..
