Nice!

Always thought I'd like to have a porsche

Just don't think I could afford to drive and up keep it.

My mechanical skills are seriously underdeveloped.

Krenn, I used to think the same until I enrolled at Austin Community College's auto tech program, in two years plus OJT I was rocking and rolling. It does take an avg of ten to twelve years to achieve master tech level though (Avg income a year for a master tech? 60-100k depending on where you work and where you live!).

Just don't throw a carb at me, I never fooled with them as it is ancient technology, computers and fuel injection are the standard of today's vehicles, and now we enter hybrid technology. Funny how many auto techs know very little about electronics and electricity. It is why the degree plans are changing nowadays, an auto tech MUST know those two things, it's not just nuts and bolts and gasoline engines anymore.

In case you peeps wonder about Kjet's nick, it is a fuel injection system developed by Bosche. Damn good one too, even though it's a bit complicated system if you never tinkered with one before.

Thanks for bringing back college textbook memories KJet.

JMM, I'm a self confessed car-a-holic!
I design and develop Jaguars for a living and then come home to my "projects".
I love them all and have owned cars from American Ponies to Italian.
This Porsche is quite clean and has only 44000 miles on the clock.
However I'm currently restoring my !970s BMW 3 series, which is the first car I ever bought when I was 17 way back in 1990! I'm dropping an M3 inspired 3.1 litre 2 valve engine into it. I'll be designing the cams, intake system and exhausting myself. Now I've done the Porsche thing, my funds get diverted to this! The engine will consist of an amalgam of different BMW parts and custom made parts with NOISE and mechnical simplicity almost as important as output. For the Old BMW cognoscenti it will have a euro M3 crank and rods-that will allow it to rev to close to 8000 rpm, forged pistons, port throttles and piston cooling jets from the M3 motor too, but based around the 2 valve "M20" block-with large valves squeezed in but STILL running K Jetronic ! The cam will be a 296 duration of my own design, using a revolutionary trick I picked up- of sustained entrainment velocities to boost valve lift! I doubt it will make more then about 250 Bhp, but should sound ALOT better then modern stiffled engines!

Ah yes, you recognised my handle! K-Jetronic or CIS as you might call it over there is a great efficient and simple fuel injection system-that's pure mechanical and hydraulic.
