Kzinti, Tholian, and Lyran ships coming soon
« on: June 12, 2004, 04:49:04 pm »
Here's some more pics of ships I've got on the way.

This first one is rather odd. It's an Archeo-Tholian battleship. It was never actually built, and the whole idea of this ship being created is highly dubious. However, the Tholians tried to convince the Klingons that this ship did exist, to discourage them from attempting to enter the Holdfast. Unfortunately for the Tholians, it was just that much more incentive for the Klingons to build the B10. Here it is:

Next up is a couple of unusual Lyran ships. One of them is the Mountain Lion destroyer. It was created from the center section of a Lyran dreadnought. The reason was, the Lyran empire was being viciously attacked by the Kzintis, and the heavy cruiser Golden Warrior could not be withdrawn from the front for its scheduled conversion to a dreadnought. The Lyrans desperately needed more ships, and so they readied the Golden Warrior's center section as its own ship, named it the Golden Cub, and sent it out. It turned out to be an excellent design, unfortunately the Lyrans couldn't spare any more DN center sections. The other Lyran ship is the Royal Tiger early dreadnought. During the Four Powers War, when the Klingons, Kzintis, and Hydrans all deployed their first dreadnoughts, the Lyrans realized they needed a heavy command unit of their own. This was before they figured out how to do trimaran conversions of their dual-hulled ships, so they created a DN by enlarging a heavy cruiser. The result was a miserable, balky contraption, underarmed for its size and with an appalling turn mode. Only four were built, and after that the Lyrans mercifully figured out how to do trimaran conversions. here they are:

Last but not least, here are images of basically the whole Kzinti fleet I've got on the way. You may note that there are images of the Kzinti DN here, which I already released. Well, I redid it. My old version was inaccurate, as it was based on an obsolete miniature, and I recently figured out what it really looks like, so I decided to remake it.

All your ships look Pretty cool glad your still doing them, But I just dont care much for that color of red you picked for the Kzinti. It just looks too red to me. The Kzinti ships of Ghost fleet dock 13 look more accurate color wise. Other wise like I said they look pretty good.

Hate to tell you this Destiny, but there actually is such an animal as a Tholian battleship. However, they were all destroyed in the Tholian's home galaxy. None survived the trip to this one. For a time the tholians thought that the 312th Neo-Tholian squadron might have one when it was on it's way to the tholian homeworld, but this turned out to be false.

I'm aware that the Neo-Tholian Battleship existed in the Home Galaxy, and that none ever made it to our galaxy. However this is the Archeo-Tholian Battleship. It was designed before the 312th arrived, and would have been constructed by welding six patrol corvettes together(which was actually impossible, but the Tholians didn't want the Klingons to know that).

That Tholian BB looks mighty sweet dude, from the thumbnails that is. For some inexplicable reason I can't see the full sized pics on village photos whenever you post previews I have no idea why, I thought it was my firewall but turned that off and nothing. Oh well, I can be patient...

Damn.

Oh BTW Desty, you know the Fed SCS on your site, I'm sure the SFB mini looks different, it has a neck I'm sure, it's really ugly with a DN style hull. I'm not suggesting you make it like that but am I thinking of the right ship or is it just my fevered imagination?

Sorry you can't see the pics.   Oh well, you'll be able to download them before long hopefully, so fear not.

About the SCS, you're correct, the SFB mini has a neck and looks like a duck IMO.   I designed my model before that mini came out and I had no decent pics to speak of. I knew what the old-style Fed CVA looked like however, so I assumed that the new-style CVA/SCS was the same with a third engine, raised warp engines, and a DN saucer. I modeled it as such. So I realize its not technically officially right, but frankly I like my version better, and I'm gonna keep it that way. I hope everyone approves.

Oh I definetly approve of your version, the only thing I don't like is that your odd-nacelled ships have warp-exhausts facing in odd directions, like the top nacelle on your DN and SCS faces to the left rather than up. I just hate those asymetrical nacelles on TOS ships. Just a pet-peeve. Keep up the good work

Not a big fan of the boxy SFB miniturish Brick red Kzinti, but that Tholian looks way sweet!!!!!!

Anyhow, as a regualr Kzin flyier I applaud anyone who models Kzinti/Mirak ships, whether they are my style or not.  Many of our players do like the SFB style.  Unlike the Federation, Klingons, and Romulans, few Kzinti / Mirak models have been done, so it is always very nice to see work done on some.  We, the Kzinti / Mirak players salute you  , a shame more modelers haven't spent any time on our ships.....

Well, look at it this way, at least you've got more ships available than the Vudar. LOL

I can't believe that the Archeo-Tholian BB is getting made... Desty, this gets better and better! Of course, Mike Raper's stats for this monster will be used.

*and there was much rejoicing again*

The Kzinti and Lyrans are great... soon, we will have a full SFB mod for OP, and there will be rejoicing for all times!

All hail Desty Nova, King of the Modelers!

Hey, I'm just a humble modeler who wants to make my own contribution to the community. I'd be nothing without you guys downloading the models and enjoying them! So thank YOU.

BTW, the Archeo-Tholian BB was officially printed by ADB in the most recent Stellar Shadows Journal, in a somewhat modified form. If you want, I could send you the SSD, and you can decide which stats you'd rather use for this monster.

Please, good sir, send away...

It always pays to go with an official (and probably toned down) version, since SVC said something about nightmare stricken playtesters after seeing this thing.
