How about resixing for....
« on: March 04, 2003, 09:34:34 am »
models in SFC2: OP? I was looking to enlarge a couple of models just a little bit as they seem somewhat out of proportion.

Could someone give a layman some dumbed down instructions on how to do that?

Thanks!

1) Save up $3000 or hang around discount stores and buy 3d Studio Max

2) Download the .mod plugin

3) Import the .mod file

4) Right click, choose Size, click and drag on the gizmo till you get the size you want

5) Export it.  You're done.  Now play.

hehe...i don't know how to do it without max, sorry

milkshape can do the scaling as well. 30 day free trial.  25 bucks after that. Perfect for smaller jobs like this

Yeah, I'm jumping in here but.... I did exactly that and it works fine for the standard models.... for some reason tho, it cant cope with the break models, so you may end up with shrinking/growing ships when they blow....

any further advice would be appreciated....

cheers

hmm-well the break models are split up into seperate groups and have pivot points. Maybe if the seperate pieces of the break could be rescaled seperately. NOt sure if you can do this with a mod file as it may just show as 1 group.

Failing that. You can always make another copy of the original .mod file and rename it as a brk. so if original file is fff.mod. copy and rename to fff_brk.  This will not be a tru break but it will spin away which I think looks real cool and would more often be the case in combat. You can also assign damage textures to this break for a more real affect.  I uaually replace the blue warp and buzzards with damage textures. Also can make holes in the hull if you want.

I think that M6's editor work well, esp if you just want to resize.

it's freeware.  You can find it here http://www.geocities.com/ccc004/

Heres the link to milk

http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/ms3d/download.html

[then you will also need these plugins to import and export  sfc mod format files.

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/sttr/milkshape_plugins.zip?download

you may want the help file from chumalum software as well-its on the same page as  the milk d/l

Happy modding

2 steps to scale in milk.

1: import model
2: under tools click scale all
3: adjust how much to scale  by percentage  ie:150%

ok I lied 3 steps

Sorry M6 confuses me- think everything is done by selecting certain a  keys. It always crashes for me. I just use it as a model viewer.

Egad!

This all seems like a lot of work just to make a couple models a little bigger!

However, I appreciate all the suggestions. But frankly, I have NO modelling experience and am rather intimidated by all of this.

....Any modellers willing to help out a shlep enlarge a couple of starships?

This isn't an immediate fix, but when they finish porting the EAW patch over to OP, you'll be able
to use the model.siz file. I'm assuming they're gonna include it for OP, anyway. The patch is close
to being done from what I've heard. Sorry if this doesn't help right away.

Well, even if I have a to wait a while, it'll be cool to be able to adjust some model sizes. Thanks for letting me know about the patch. Do you know where I can go to get news about this OP patch?

Try a search on OP patch in the general forum. You may get more complaints on people waiting for the patch  then actual info though

I remembered this and wanted to bump it now that the patch is out. The model.siz file is in the patch
so it's simple to resize the models now.

Under Polygons pick select all. Do the same under Vertices. (May not need both, but that's what I've done). Use the "Q" and "W" keys to either shrink or enlarge a model. Best I can figure it's a 1% change per keystroke. When you get tje desired change, save. That's about the limit of what I can do with it. Milkshape's easier, but M6's program's free.

the only trouble with using the model.siz file to resize ships is this. its just a list of numbers which seem to be pretty meaningless. i tried asking around to find out what they refered to but no-one knew......

Thanks, Capt. Sarmox!

You're instructions did the trick!

Now those disproportionate ships are fixed!

I really appreciate it.

The way I use it is to look up a ship that you know the size of, the fca as an example,
and scale the ship you want to change to it. The fca is 8.47. Making a vessel 12.70
would make the fca 2/3 the size of your resized model. If I'm understanding the file
correctly.
I've used it in EAW to make Fed ff's the size of PFs to use stock models for
Federation Thunderbolt PFs. I just looked up the size of the Lyran PF in the model.siz
file, copied the Fed ff and renamed the copied folder and .mod file and the brk.mod, then
put the location of the model in the model.siz file.
Example: ASSETS\MODELS\FPF\FPF.MOD       1.67
         ASSETS\MODELS\FPF\FPF_BRK.MOD   1.67
The result is a Federation PF model. The file is case sensitive and you have to use upper
case. I hope you find this as usefull as I have, since I can't model a lick
