SCS and Dreadnoughts RELEASED
« on: June 07, 2004, 06:25:04 pm »
Come Get Some!

Please note, some of the following were already released by other people, i am not taking credit for them, i have merely fixed up and tweaked part of the mesh or textures (For example, made the center warp nacelle of P81's Star League glow on both sides, fixed a slight clipping problem on the pylon etc), added or changed hardpoints and LODs and so on, others are original kitbashes (if such a description exists lol) by myself. Full Credits and Info are in the zips.

All these ships bar the Star League have the Ascension name and registry, i purposely left it this way as i am absolutely crap with textures, and thought i would leave it to more capable hands to rename/reregister them. As far as i know, there are no problems with these ships, they all worked fine for me in-game, im kinda rushing them out a bit as i have a seriously busy few weeks coming up, so apologies if you get any probs. Enjoy!

Hey Wolfsglen, can you try your hand at the Entente-Class (aka Federation refit) from Brad's SSTCSMUA? It seems to share more in common with it's predecessor than the P81 Star League, which always had a badly formed hull IMO.

http://www.sub-odeon.com/stsstcsmua/federation/federation_refit.html

But, there's also another minor request. Is it possible for you to "graft" the saucer of Lord Schtupp's Federation onto the Entente once she's done and refit it? Although the Enterprise saucer was larger than the Conny's, the original Federation had a much larger saucer than either! It does not make sense for such a vital conponent to be downsized, because they would then lose much space for weapons.

Also, are you interested in making the Coeur De Lion on John Payne's site? It's the perfect TMP battleship, better than the Excelsior even!

Very nice. Very, very nice. I am particlarly happy about that Ascension. For some reason I like it for the F-DNL and the Ascension made from early P81 parts was a little defective. This should be the perfect solution for all that texture tweaking that wasn't really fixing that one. Thanks for doing these and I, for one, will be looking forward to these.

Only one Ascension has been made from P81 parts to my knowledge and that there is so obviously it, but tweaked as the author said. I remember I had problems with backwards registries on on nacelle, can't think of anything else wrong with it.

Thanks guys, yes the backward registries was one of the things i fixed on them, most of them still say "Ascension" even on non-Ascension ships, but i thought i would leave the actual registrys/saucer names and fonts etc to someone much better at it. All will have LODs for SFC:OP too, now that i figured out how to do em   Otherwise it was mesh fixing and tweaks and slight texture changes on the existing ships made by others.

Mariner, i will certainly take a look, they would make nice additions and would be an interesting project for me next If you have any tweaks or custom changes in mind for them drop me a PM or catch me on MSN if you see me there.

Release should be this weekend once i get the hardpoints done (urgh)

The very on. It was a starship I had been tinkering with to see how good it could be. The main thing is that the warp nacelles didn't come out very well. That and a number of other nitpicky things when you look closely at it. It still looks decent when played, though. I was planning on learning to kitbash on this particular model as it is compatible with P81's Hatfield DN. Between those two models is everything you need to make a new improved Ascension. I still might do so as a learning exercise but Wolfsglen's looks just fabulous and will undoubtably be the model of choice for the Ascension.

Please do still try, my skills are still pretty non-existent and limited purely to kitbashing as i learn my way around Max and what it can do, so its very likely you will improve on what i do, plus we need all the choices and interpretations we can get!

Exactly right   As is the current saucer on it. Oriskany-Style SCS is a long way away from being finished yet though, so lots of tweaking ahead for it.

Release for the other dreadnoughts *should* be this weekend, the models are all finished with LODs etc, i just got to get them hardpointed (not my favorite job lol)

i made a kitbash for a gsc but it need some tuning, i hade a sensor dish and the bard (mega phaser and torpedo) from a miranda class but the sensor pod is a little on the way and if i place it on the segondary hull it will be in the way of the other torpedo tube, and i have a few other ship that need a break model and to be show to every one. and i made a spacial klingon D7 with the roll bar (mega phaser and torpedo tube), look cool its adding firepower to a klingon ship

I believe it is, ive only ever found one Oriskany so it must be yours hehe. Its just an experiment currently so i can learn a few mesh tweaks and practise them, i dont have any actual plans to finish it and no intention of releasing it at all, but thought id show it with the 'Dreads as it was similar design, and might influence something from others.

I was considering using the Hatfield to make the Ascension a better model. The Hatfield I have of P81's has the necessary parts and textures for that purpose. Perhaps it could be a base vessel for a DNL refit. Then use Wolfsglen's as a plus verion. There is no F-DNL+ but one could always make one for that purpose by creating reasonable specifications (eg. drone loads or shield upgrade) to distinguish between the two models. It's all fair game when trying to make the game a little more fun.

I dunno. For a man with   no skills      those look pretty friggin' good. Shoot, I'd like would like to be able to do what you are doing right now. Milkshape is an option but I am trying to locate a dated copy of Max to buy. If I can ebay that for $100 or less then that seems to me to be the better choice. I doubt if I want to learn both programs but if I can't snag a copy of 3DsMax 4 or 5 them it looks like Milksape for me. I have Photoshop and PSP but don't realy know how to use them well enough to make a texture worth a flip. My  main ambition is to learn to kitbash well. I consider someone like Wicked Zombie and how long he's been doing this and the amount of time and effort it took for him to get where he is. By the time I could do something anywhare near that quality this forum will probably be but a memory. That's what I think, anyway.

Sorry for being long winded and diverting the topic here. Namely those u-bangy kitbashes your'e doing. Looking forward to them as they look to be way cool.

Now that you mention it those pics do sort of remind me of ADB's new version of the F-SCS. The mini looks hideous, being just the old flatbed CVA with a connie style dorsal separating the saucer from the sec-hull and a third nacelle plonked on top Federation class style. The Oriskany is a much better base to build from in this case as the secondary hull is not so disproportionate to the saucer.

I'll second everything there except that awful aft deflector on the SSTCSMUA Entente.    Those guys need to take a closer look at the hallowed FJTM, and note that the "radar dish" on the Federation is identified as the main sensor dish and the navigational deflectors are smaller things that only show up on the front view.    Hmm, might be time for another email to Brad--maybe I can get on another page over there...

The Alexander class is my favorite FDN. DarkMatrix did a great job with it overall. This is the second version he made.

IIRC the problem with the TMP USS Federation (not P81's 'custom' Federation or his take on Franz Joseph's USS Star League) and USS Ascension  was that the third warp engine strut was not 100% accurate, the neck structure supporting the warp pylon was too small compared to the diagram. [See Ascension or Federation listing at www.shipschematics.net]

Now, if we can get the retextured USS Churchill's LOD textures to MATCH in game when veiwed from a distance I'll be very happy with my  Federation fleet. That is available at:

http://www.the-tcs.net/dldir/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=141

BTW: I've never thought of the Churchill as a carrier, I have always thought of it as the replacement class for the Excelsior as a result of the political fallout over the failed Transwarp drive... I digress about my alternate Trek Universe...

Now the Holy grail for us non-federation fans is getting Thulls' Romulan Sparrowhawk and Captain KoraH's Neutral Zone Cormorant [think STOCK OP RBC with Thulls Romulan engines] with Ganymad's Romulan textures on them. Its beyond me as I've been trying for months, LOL.

Qapla!

Third version now, i replaced several parts such as the neck and slightly different miranda megaphasers, did some subtle texture work, resized the connie hull, did some sizing and shifting of the belknap pylons etc, not to mention the LODs and hardpoints. When i looked at the original Alexander i downloaded in ModViewer, the neck had a gap under the saucer and didnt touch, plus quite a few bits of mesh didnt align (some still dont i think, but i fixed some) This whole project ended up coming about from me changing the Belisarius about for my own greedy little plans. Have a look at them both side by side closely from all angles, you might be surprised

A Mark III i guess

That Churchill is nice, might try something with that in the future.
