It does show promise though.

Look at it this way: People are sniffing around for the rights. Just because one didn't bite doesn't mean someone else better down the line won't.

   I will go along with you on that J Carney.I wouldn't want to anybody else make these other than this company right here.I hope it darn well stays that way for our sakes.I mean users and staff if not I suggest that we boycott any SFC. made games buy a different devoloper.Good point J Carney

Unfortunately, they weren't dealing for the Trek rights, they were talking about buying EA outright.

What other publishers are out there that might possibly be interested?  

Activision is out.  EA is apparently out (unless Viacom gives in.)  Interplay no longer exists.

The only other ones I can think of are THQ and the bunch under Vivendi.

    They can pull Interplay out of Financial ruins though and get their offices reopen.

Ah, but this is not about other companies being offered the rights...

It's about buying those other companies outright, and then it will be seen what can be used from them to publish their own stuff as they desire.

if EA will ever release any StarTrek game than you would know that this game will be dead after one yeahr because EA has only the money in mind and gives nothing on supporting the community and the technical support is even sh**, if you have a look on the NFS series of games than you know that i say the truth about EA
