Thanks for posting this article, Storm, interesting stuff.  Put me down for one of those that doesn't really understand all of what they are talking about.  That rural Ohio high school education only goes so far!    But it is nice to see that they are at least working on things like this.  Hopefully we will see some application for it in our lifetimes.

I put it in as a kind of subtitle in toasty's forum. Naked liberal claims...etc. so we can test your "theory" out.

I need to find a link to the story Jerry, But I saw today on discovery Channel, That guy who invinted the Bear Proof suit, had came up with a new Paste, that when hardened, can take Temperatures in excess of 3600 Deg. farenhieght I beleive, + It's lighter then aluminum.

To put this in Perspective, The space shuttle on re-entry Takes only 3000 Degrees.

I dunno stephen. There was a guy in scotland. a self taught chemist, who created a material called starlite plastic which was tougher than carbon carbon matrix tiles on the shuttle and could take a direct hit (thermally speaking of course) from a big nuke and not melt. He was trying to get the corporations to give him proper royalties and such. I never heard if it got sorted out. This guy is actually a hairdresser of all things. Could this be the same person? I've not heard anything about starlite plastic in almost a decade. But it was on the science shows back then. I cannot verify through any means that that story was true. If you can find collaberating evidence, I would be most happy.

If you heard about it and suddenly vanished, I will bet it was snatched up by the military.
I could tell you about some things i have seen in Nevada at Groom Lake but i have no wish to go to prison.

If that stuff was real it could have been applied to the shuttles and we'd have no second shuttle disaster and no real nead to end the program or replace them. Also it would make spacecraft almost as cheap to make as big jets.

By the way the shows I watched had independent scientists and engineers frying the stuff all sorts of ways trying to melt it. And likethe shuttle tiles you could touch one side while a blow torch was applied to the other. I saw that much on the show.

while searrching for your plastic story or the starlite plastic story I ran across this material.

New Sail material and space shipe structural and ancilliary systems material.

I may have to ask Death Merchant for Search engine keyword ideas. I'm not finding anything. I've got a few more avenues to try. But It's geting pretty close to failure here.

Space ship shield technology begins to evolve.

 radiation shields

this along with my links to hydrogenated polymer shields and cold plasma shield research should belay many qualms about long interplanetary or ointerstellar trips.

not a chore at all. you're welcome.

I  enjoy doing it. moreso than any political stuff. Unfortunately few people besides you and a handful of others seem to share my fascination with it.

glad to hear it. I find these things and post them in hopes of getting at least some discussion out of it. So far, the thread I had the most luck with is my building a planet one. hold on let me see if I can find the link to the cold plasma shield article. it was also at space.com I think.
