That was the DirectX 9 bug.  They fixed that one a long time ago.

Oh well, whenever I get my internet at home up again, maybe I'll come find you on OP so that you can blast me to bits.

See you (somewhere) in space.

http://www.starfleetgames.com/discus/ Click on the link that says Company Policy then click on the link thats says Product Schedule and look in there

They were a playtest Race that at first wasnt much hope of them becomeing a formal part of SFB, But im glad they made a come back. Looks like Im going to have to make My Vudar ships over again. But I wish they would make the Frax a official Race and not just a Simulator Race.

I wouldn't call them new, since they do a nice job of carving up a good portion of my space during the fight to reclaim the capital in F&E. I think F&E 2k has them occupy 6 or so hydran sectors.

F&E 2k !?!?!?!   Man, I'm behind! <scurries off to check website>

I think it would be fun to try out the Frax in OP too. Hmmm.. they could go in the Orion or BeastRaider slot in my mod... I'd just need the specs... but if we get a working webcaster through mission scripting I'd rather add the Seltorians to break it... I suppose there may be room for both...

Got any more details on what the Vudar are like? (weapons, ships etc...)

The Vudar are a lizard-like humanoid race that developed under conditions of extremely highamounts of ionizing radiation. Thelevels are so high around their neighborhood that the Klingons had to allow the Vudar to build ships to police the area, as the radiation would have killed a Klingon. The Vudar cannot survive in normal levels of radiation.

They used Ion Cannons and Ion Pulse Generators (similar effects to an ESG) as heavy weapons, and mostly phaser-2's and -3's.

Lemmie find my Galactic Smorgousboard and I'll put out the official scoop.

OK... everyone turn in their hymnals to section R17.0...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Vudar Enclave (abridged from SFB Module P6 1995, all right reserved)

The Vudar are a humanoid race, taller and thinner than Terrans with oversized eyes and a pale green complection. Rather than evolving from primates, they are desended from a line of gecko-like reptiles. They have a clear eyelid which affords them protection while swimming. This eyel;id also allows them to 'wet' their lenses without blinking. This gives offworlders the impression that they are always 'staring at you.'

Although decended from carnavores, the Vudar are generally peaceful and accidemic. They rival the Vulcans for their scientific achievementsand their products are a prized comodity among the Kilingon Empire (of which they spent more than a centure as a subject world, producing more than 10% of the Empire's impulse engines). The Vudar rarely serve aboard Kilingon starships, however, due to their need for ionizing radiation that would be hazardous for the remainder of the crew.

The Ion cannon must be armed with 1 point of warp and 1 point of impulse power on each of two consecutive turns.  They use 2D6 to determine to hit (like a hellbore) and do damage as follows (like a photon) : Standard 6 pts., Overload 12 pts., Proximity 3 pts.

The Ion Pulse Generator is a capacitor based weapon like the ESG that inflicts 2 pts of damage per point of energy expended from the capacitor agianst any size class 6 or 7 units iwithin 2 hexes of the generating unit. It can also produce a cloud of jamming (+3 natural ECM) around the ship that lasts for 4 impulses. The capacitor cvan hold up to 4 points of energy.

Orion pirates can use the Ion cannon and IPG in option mounts with a + 0 BPV adjustment. Ther are considered opperating territory weapons for the Pharaoh and Hamalcar clans.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope that makes it a little clearer for those unfamiliar with the Vudar.

Khalee, you started this thread...how many new ships do they have out so far? I have the old DD/WD SSD for them.

Anyone have a total list of every species in SFB, broken down by region?

Sorry Age...

There is no Ion Cannon in SFC2:OP... there is no Ion Pulse Generator either. THey are still in playtest for Star Fleet Battles.

LeRoy...

Nice attempt to rationalize SFB history into that strange mistake known as SFC3.

Perhaps by the time we get the next SFC game out, the Vudar will be ready to go and can be put in game.

Infiltraitor,

THe prospect that Activision might get kicked off the job and Taldren have total control of any future effort does indeed give me the warm fuzzy feeling about the Vudar, Tholians, Seltorians, Jindarian, WYN and LDR being playable (and maybe even the Paravian and Carnivon, too) in SFC4 when we see it come out.

starwolf3500:

Yeah, I do. Really I don't think trhat SFC3 was a terrible game.

But when Activision and Microsoft got ahold of our beloved SFC the result was depressingly similar to what happened when that bunch took over MechWarrior.

You got a dumbed down game who's appeal was based on simplicity instead of depth. I was greatly dissappointed at the loss of seeking weapons (plasma torps, not necessarilly drones) for a dozen same-old same-old 'ray guns' to stick on my ship. Then you have the loss of fighters, the exclusion of the Ferengi, Cardassians, and Dominion (which would have made things so much more interesting) and other varrious pointsthat even I will agree are nit-picky. SFC3 also had a distinctly 'good guy, bad guy' feel that I, as a Romulan player, did not appreciate at all.

It is, like you said, a matter of oppinion. Its not a terrible game, and in fact is pretty well done in it's own way, but even as it stands, it could have been so much more.

That was and is still my major complaint.

Does anybody even play stock SFC3 anymore?   The modders, not Activision, turned it into a good game.

Notice how many mods try to make the game closer to SFC2?

But I digress, the most ideal package for SFC4 would base based on the SFB product with the modability of SFC3.   This way us SFB freaks could have our fix and the modders from SFC3 could re-make the game into anything they want.

Now that I have to agree with 1000%.  It could have been so much more and Activision didn't do it any favors by rushing it out for Nemisis.  But I would like to invite you to try some of the mods that have been created for it (my current preference is the Unity mod).  Domwars and Islandwars have gone a long way to make other races playable (although they are still tech limited).  Come see, you might like the chance to relax and give your keyboard and mouse a little rest (having played SFC since 1, it is a bit complicated for me to be a truly effective pilot.  I figure that I would last about 2 minutes against a D2 pilot :P).

i'd bet real money that every "bad idea" in SFC3 came from an Activision board meeting.

I'll be on for a bit on Litterbox 5 as a Romulan, not sure what mod that will be using.
