Unknown ship classes.
« on: March 02, 2003, 12:58:43 pm »
I've heard mention, especially in the models forum, of starship classes.  The Achilles, the Genesis, and the Olympic.

I've never heard of these ships before comming back to peruse these boards after my purchase of SFC3, and it's been driving me nuts!  What are they?  Are they canon ship classes?  Conjured from some obscure technical resource?  Are they from a novel or other commercial source?  Are they fan-fic inventions or simply created solely for games like SFC by the game-modding community?

Inquiring minds wanna know.

AFAIK the Achilles and Genesis are community ships or from another game.  The Olympic class can be seen as the Pasteur in "All Good Things" under the command of Captain Beverly Picard.

Genesis is supposedly Khan's stolen ship from Star Trek II, among other things

isn't the Olympic a hospital ship? Has a ball-shaped main hull instead of a saucer shaped one...

Ahh, my bad.. completely slipped my mind that the Pasteur was an Olympic class.  I do peruse the Daystrome Institute fairly regularly but guess I just overlooked that ship.  As for Khan's ship.  Genesis in Star Trek II was the name for the insta-terraforming device Khan stole.  Khan's starship in that movie was the USS Reliant, a Miranda class vessel.

I can see some influence of the Excelsior class in there to, especially in the dorsal side of the engineering hull.

What have you been smoking, Cyberbeer? The Olympic looks like a giant baseball. The Oberth looks more like a porpoise. A pregnant one admittedly, but nonetheless much better looking.

And another similarity to the Excelsior is that both fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. In my humble opinion.
