These critters are important because unless I miss my guess they are about the same size as the disputed artifacts found in the Mars meteor that were claimed to be too small to be any known microbe at the time. the scientists publisheda paper claimingt he artifacts were fossilized remains of microbes from Mars, sparking heated debate and harsh criticism. they published a follow on paper reiterating thier claims. then the story basically vanished.this article lends further credence indirectly to that claim.

The tiny creatures are smaller than most commonly known bacteria and have endured at least 120,000 years in subzero temperatures, crushing pressure, low oxygen levels and almost no nutrients. They were found in ice core samples taken nearly 2 miles (3,000 meters) below a glacier. Researchers said they could be a million years old.

My question is, Did they survive by reproduction, or is this a Life form that has that kind of Longevity? Maybe size does matter???

they've cultured them so that means they reproduce. I'd say they have an extremely lethargic metabolism and do *everything* in extremely slow motion. including reproduce. See, it appears that that is where they evolved and not just a place they were haplessly trapped. it's thier ecological niche. It has all sorts of implications even when just taken in context o fthe story. When You add what I inferred. it is even more startling.
