You can I thought you said you couldn't. I beg to differ as they don't have fighters asigned to them unless there is away to really mod the fighterlist and let them use Klingon fighter but how are you going to decide on which fighter you want when in spacedock it only lets you choose the fighter that ship carries. The PF is considered a fighter but it is in the shiplist instead.I would tend to differ on this because you cannot choose a PF in the ships library or shipyard and the fighters to put on board that PF.

I hope yo can see what I am saying as you would have to be a great Modder to this and the best shiplist modder on these forums you would  have to to the unpossible. You can have a CV carring a PF though put not a PF carring fighters no way.

I know it can be done, personally I wont do it right now, it requires constant testing, which is a lot of time I cant spare at the moment but if you can give races that are pf carriers fighters and races that have fighters pfs , than you can give pfs fighters as well, now if you can not get them on the ship selection menu than you cant thats fine, but the issue on hand is can pfs carry fighters and that is yes, i remember doing one way back, you probably cant select fighters or do stuff in the spacedock, but at least their given the ones they were given in the shiplist, and for that matter its more of a pf variety, make a copy of 10 pfs and assign them different fighter capabilities, spice it up lol

You can't fly a PF though only a ship.when I start playing in D2 i would like someone to host a server on this.

Actually, that's wrong. Target your PF, press Backspace(I think that's the key to hit) and it will transfer you to command of the PF and put your ship under AI control.

Fi-Cons... get em here

(P.S.  its ctrl-backspace to pilot a targeted PF and return to your carrier the same way... just be prepared for your PFT to do stupid things while you are away...)

There is no way you can put fighters on a stock PF because it has no shuttle bay, transporters and tractor beam. This is why you can't unless you can mod them but than they wouldn't be up to SFB specifications would they.I told you couldn't.

is it possible for a pf to have a fighter???

--------------------
I'm just a dumb sfc modder who needs lots of help that i can't get,or afford????

this was the question, the answer is simple, and that is yes, you mod the pf to have shuttle bays, and then find a host species to duplicate the ship and the pf, as well as make a new fighter and that should do it, now if a SFB hard core fan doesnt like it, than he simply doesnt have to use or do it, for other people who like more excitement in their games, can give pf's fighters and spice it up

Well...

I sold my SFB stuff a few years ago, but I remember one of the scenarios as being something like the Kzin used some modified PF's to tow fighters.  Had limited success until they met some Klingon gunships commanded by a legendary captain.  The PF's were a little different than standard, but I cant remember the configuration.  I think this scenario was based on a real life experiment post WWII, where long range bombers had the escort fighters hooked up to it, and they launched only when necessary (no return trip apparently).  Sounds like exciting stuff.

And thats all I can remember about that...

I guess you could put fighter on if you modify the PFs in the shiplist and put in a  shuttle bay.I will have try this sometime.I wonder whoes fighters you could use eg.Lyran Klingon  maybe Gorn Federation or ISC.This would be the big question. If anybody has any ideas just post them.

In SFB the Gorn were (for phsyiological reasons) unable to fly fighters.  They bought fighters from the Federation and hired humanoid mercenaries to fly them.

Hey Adam, just too let you know, a Fi-con is basically a heavily modified PF.  In SFB, the Mirak/Kzinti wanted too find some way too extend their range of attack with PF's.  Since Mirak/Kzinti rely heavily on Fighters, they experimented with a concept where they took standard PF's and ripped out most of the weapons in them and instead installed Hardpoints too hold Fighters with.  The Theory was that a Base of PF Tender could carry these Fi-con PF's and head strategically torward a Battle (like a two or three day trip) but not engage directly in the battle, then launch their fighters for the initial battle.  It looked good on paper as it did give Fi-cons the advantage of suprise and extended range, but the entire system had flaws.

The Mirak/Kzinti found out that their was no way for these Fi-con PF's too rearm or repair any Fighters that happened too return the the Fi-con Floatila.  The Fi-cons themselves had hardly any armament so if they where attacked initially they had too hope their Fighters they where carrying would protect them.  But since the Fighters had too carry their own ordinance, Fi-con squadrons where hopelessly outgunned against other PF's or ships.  And of course, the waste in resouces.  A Fi-con Squadron where somewhat useless for most Carrier duties where an Auxiary Carrier (ie. a Freighter converted for Military Carrier duties) could do basically the same job with extended range compared too Fi-cons.

The Mirak/Kzinti did find that Fi-cons only really good use was for key suprise strikes (ie. WWII Doolittle type raids) where you needed a squadron of Fighters too attack a specific target and get back too base without anyone noticing.  But overall, Fi-cons where not that effective and the Mirak/Kzinti I beleive only build one or two squadrons for specail missions and training purposes.  SFB did include Fi-cons for other races, but they where purely conjectural.

One last thing, since the Federation supplied the Gorns fighters during the General War (mostly F-8s and F-18s) they had too hire Mercanaries because the average Gorn was just too darn big too fit in a Fed fighter!

The Fi-Con scenario you are thinking of is SH14.0, Fi-Con Fiasco in module K. Historically, the Kzinti 23rd Fi-Con Flotilla was mauled in battle in Y181 by Kollos Kumerian's 701st Gunboat Flotilla (a Klingon G1 group). The Kzinti were not the only race to employ Fi-Cons, my hydrans did as well with the Valkyrie PF.

As for the Gorn, they as said couldn't fit into standard fighter cockpits, so they hired Skolean mercanaries to fly their fighters. This is one reason the gorn lagged all other races but the lyrans in carrier development. Gorns used fighters bought from the federation, including the G-10, G-18, G-20, G-8, and G-12 fighters. These were the same as the federation types with plasma D or F rounds replacing the missles. The only home grown fighter shuttle types used by the gorn was the G-30 Wyvern and the bomber types, which were large enough to accept Gorn pilots (the G-30 being a heavy 2 space fighter).
