Anyoen in here play ST: Armada II???
« on: May 29, 2004, 08:54:42 pm »
I've been playing it, and I've managed to get to what looks like the final borg mission "Rifts."  IO've run this scenario many times in as many ways as I can think of.  I've tried immense defense around my bases- multiple starbases, turrets palced in as tighty as I can get them surrounding the whole area, I've used the temporal reserach facility to freeze fleets that are approaching.  I've tried soaking up my entire resources on this, and also on massive fleets that are as powerful as I can make them.  I've tried preemptive strikes to try to take on the enemy bases before they can hit me, but it always ends up the same:  My fleets are wiped out, my embattlements and abses destroyed and I lose the game.
What am I missin here?

Forget ST A2.

SWFC rules!

It's a mod for Star Trek Armada 2, called Star Wars Fleet Command.  It is seriously one of the best mods around for that game.

They were originally gonna make it ST vs SW, and then just made it SW.  Hopefully they'll put ST back in.

It's made by Project90, and I've made an agreement with them on my SFC3 mod, Sci-fi Bashfest- I'll be able to use their ships.

Anyway, SWFC is just great.  I turned up the game and build speeds to max and had Super Star Destroyers all over the place, and Sovereigns with superlasers

At this point it's about pride.  I want to pass this mission and move past it, so it's quickly becoming an obsession.

It's been a Loooooong while since I've played the SP campaign of ST:A2 (I liked A1's better...a2 has more options in IA/MP which is great but A1 has a much better campaign).

Sorry I can't help you any...perhaps you need to be a tad more aggressive?  In the acquisition of planets and materials?

If you are desperate...Kobayashi Maru I think?  (couldn't tell you if it works or not...or if that's even the right thing to type in).

If you check www.gamefaqs.com  perhaps they will have something that will help you.

Its a Bitc# i agree I got through it by doing all you said above , Then i get my ship production cranking and set the rally point close to my star base. when my heavy ships are produced i set them ALL on red alert & free movement, then put them in assault wall formation. They will effectively guard your base while you keep cranking out the heaviest ships you can afford.
Then i start stacking ships in assault wall formation red alert free movement again, Then number them 1-5 etc. Move them a little bit away from any gravity wells so warp travel is not impeded, All 1-5 ( Fleets not just one ship!)  in one spot so they arrive at one time. Then in rapid succession ( about a second apart) Target the fleet lurking near or in the enemy star base, The base ,ship yards research facility etc. If you do it fast enough all of your ships will arrive about the same time, And completely butcher any thing in the area!!
Make sure you spend the resources so you can up grade your weapons ,engines, shields, sensors as they will really help your fleets survive,
Don't leap before your are ready and good luck!!!! ( Don't let it get to you this one ticked me off for about 2 weeks)

A thing I've learned in A2 from other people doing it to me on accident-

Kill the enemy research bases first.  Suddenly they will be unable to build anything big.

This last one is in fluidic space, and no warp is permitted there.  Also, no planets- the only source of extra supplies is one cargo ship that comes through the transwarp gate regularly.  i've had massive amounts of weaponry - multiple starbases and more turrets that I've seen around any other base of ops in any other scenario.  The 8472 ships just keep coming, in massive waves that just grow bigger and bigger.  Let me put it this way:  I've built up defenses as ast and as powerfully as I can think up and the 8472 ships wittle them down like a piece of balsa wood and wipe me out every time with clockwork efficiency.  The key seems to be their weapon that incapacitates my fleet, and I have no idea how to defend against it, since it will leave a fleet and two bases defenseless.  I only have 20,000 metal and 20000 dilitium, so I can't just keep builing more and more, not that I have enough time to do that anyway.

Hey CK, Let me know when You online and I'll give you a few pointers with ST : AM2. I used to play that all the time myself.

It's been awhile though, But It seems that I was able to Mass Produce Defiant Class's to help Defend the base against the S8762 onslaught. I believe I used the Borg on that mission also to handle Refinery Situations. But It's been awhile. I mostly Played online with that one.
