Topic: SFC2 - Command Cruiser, whats the point?

Was noticing that the Command Cruiser for the ISC, CCAZ (i think) costs around 2800, my question is why? The CAZ is identicle to the ship, execpt it is not a "command cruiser". The only difference I could tell is that the CC has an additional 4 points for its engine power, but thats basicly nothing. However, the real difference is the price difference for the two. The non-CC is a mere 1997. So there is almost a 1000 prestigue difference here. What's so special about the CC?? I've noticed the same applies to flagships too. I've seen ships with double the firepower but at the same price, and the only difference is the weaker one is a flagship. Am I missing something?

  Might be a carry-over from the baord game, in that, Command ships had extra bridge boxes, flag bridges, that help protect vital weapons and allowed greater control even after damage.

No idea what the reasoning is in the PC game though.

Question, these extra boxes for the bridge and stuff, do these boxes get damage first before vital systems such as weapons, and sorry seth for butting in and taking the post to left field

No... Bridge and FLag Bridge were hit only on 2, while weapons usually were hit on  3, 4, 10, and 11.  

According to my old Commander's Edition books, a CC should have 1 more PPD than a CA too.  Haven't looked in game though.

Four points of power is the difference between night and day in a player vs. player match.

The CCZ indeed does have one more PPD than a CAZ and those four power are to charge it's weapons at the same power curve as the CAZ. The CAAZ is an armored cruiser with more shields, armor and a higher move cost. It is true that in SFB CC's had more functions and were used as flotilla command ships. The extra systems have been noted. As for why the cost is still there when the systems are not "useful" in SFC, I'll answer that as soon as I can figure out why Scouts without scout functions were included.

So basicly, for single player campaigns, you should never waste the prestigue in buying a CC or flagship...

I wouldn't say that. Most CC's have a better power curve and weapons suite available to them. The ISC are a bad example as the CAZ is considered a Heavy Command Cruiser compared to other races ships. The CCZ is actually a Heavy Battle Cruiser.

If it really bothers you, you can change the cost of all ships in the .gf files. You can pay very little PP for ships if you want. Just set the multiplier really low.

I suggest you fly a few other races before scoffing at 4 points of warp power... gah, the mind boggles at what some of the ships I like to fly would be like with another 4 warp points...
