no, there is a current project to modify sounds going on in one of the forums. There were some flames. But those people should know. Also this has been covered in the past. those threads with the answers may still be in the archivethough a lot of old threads were lost a couple of years ago.

Dang. A long time ago I remember reading a post where Chris Jones was talking about the sound file work around. Not even sure which forum I was at.      I think it was as Manitoba desribed. But 1st convert the file to the same rate and what not. Then rename to file you are replacing and useing store. That sounds familar anyway.

He needs to up the sample rate. I'm not sure that can be done with standard software. But someone just made a new sound pack in one of the other forums. Although apparently the thread degenerated to flames the participants know how or know someone who does. The basics of replacing sound files or down converting. It is possible they can point to how to upconvert sample rates. Me, I'd just find a higher sample rate file. some one has one thats high enough no matter how obscuer the source was. atthe vary least there will be someone who can resample it. I even found someone who pointed me to the old 1980's startrek arcade game's photon torpedo sound.

I just spent a few minutes playing around with the dbPowerAmp converter I recommended (because I hate to recommend something if I'm not 100% sure it will work), and I had no trouble converting a 20kb/s wav file into a 128kb/s mp3, and it was even capable of taking a 64kb/s mp3 and making it 128kb/s.  Obviously there was no improvement in sound quality, but Winamp read the new file as 128k/s, so Praxis shouldn't have any problems taking his wav or mp3 file and making it into an mp3 of any bit rate he wants.

In fact, there are probably plug-ins for Winamp that will do the same thing.  I'd almost be willing to lay down money that you could find conversion plug-ins that would do the job, at least for 2.91.

I spent 2 hours on this and still wont work. I used that free program and it looks all ok. Converted wav to mps at a28kbps 44100 6 bit.  But no sound. I noice that the original files had all the same stast except compression ratio. The compression ration on the original were 11 to 1. While the file I converted was 10 to 1.  So I tired advanced options. There is a choice between constant bit rate, average bit rate and variable. THis time I used average and got the 11 to 1 compression ratio but at 126kbps. Still no sound.

There must be still another aspect to it.

I just noticed that all the music files in SFC3 are exactly the sam size. 939kb   or length =1.00mm:s
I bet 5 cents that the file replcing the original must be the exact same length. So what software will allow me to edit the length and fade out the music at the end?   Got to check this out

perhaps. but nanerslug would know for sure. he'd also know how to circumvent it. They have a working sound mod with new music.
