SFC2 - The Patch killed me
« on: May 24, 2004, 01:11:56 am »
Just updated from 2002 to 2036 and have had nothing but problems since. When I try to load my saved game, it says "Incoming hail", when trying to load the game, then says "Unable to connect". It never did this before the update. After reading similar posts, i read that removing the saved games might help, so I cut the games out and moved them to another folder, and still, the same thing happens. What should I do??

I have Windows XP Pro, Radeon 9200 AGP (128-DDR-SDRAM), 1.7ghz Athlon, and 80gigs on a 7200RPM hard drive.

I have changed every setting and tried to run it, and with each setting it gives me the same problem.

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Is there any hope for me?

Oh, shiznit...

You patched in the middle of a campaign...

Well, here's what you do. You make a little stuffy-guy effigy of your brave commander. You, with the utmost respect place him agianst a hard steel backstop. You tell him that it hurts you more than it hurts him, and then you blow his little brains out.

See, the patched versions of the game are incompatable with each other. You can't save in 2.002 and then patch to 2.036 and reload the last save. Sorry to say it, man... ya just gonna have to get a new hero.

Carney is correct..

Saved games need to be deleted after using the game patch.. Saved games in any version of SFC (including SFC I, SFC II EAW, SFC II OP, SFC III) will not work with newer patch versions due to changes in the game engine in the patches.

Also, for fighters and shuttles to work properly, delete your desktop icon, and find the Starfleet2.exe for EAW or the StarfleetOP.exe for Orion Pirates and right click on it, select "Copy", then right click on an empty spot on your desktop and select "Paste Shortcut"..

this will bypass the intro movie and fix a releated bug concerning shuttles and fighters in game.

Hope that this helps.

P.S. The best way to patch the game is to completely uninstall SFC, delete the game folder, reinstall the game fresh and clean, then patch with the full version patch.. for EAW it is 2002 or 2102 or 2202 ---> 2036. For OP it is 2500 ---> 2552.

Thanks.

Actually SFC2 doesn't create a desktop icon, but most of us would do that manually anyway.

Bypassing the movies fixes a CTD (crash to desktop) problem with newer OS's when trying to get into the D2 campaigns, so it is a good thing to directly run starfleet2.exe instead of SFC2.exe. (same applies for OP, use the main exe)

To fix the missing shuttles and fighters problem in OP you have to enter the correct working directory into the Start In entry for the icon you have created (or copied from the Start Bar program list).

Unfortunately, I did uninstall, and immediately after I uninstalled, I installed it again, then before even opening the game, I patched it. The problem still takes place? Not only that, but the problem did and is occuring when I also try to create a new campaign. Any ideas on this?

Did you delete the game folder aswell this must be done before reinstalling the game and patching it up.I would sugest another complete fresh clean install of the game and yes this means uninstalling it agian and deleting the  Taldren game folder or in case of it being Orion Pirates Taldren shoftware.I know it is a pain but we all go through it more than once I certianly have and more

If you read what Pestalence told you what to do you will get it right and you can see that he is a beta tester so he knows what is talking about.Where did you think I learned all this stuff from yes Pestalence himself.I would follow his instruction axactly to the letter.

I hope this all helps and welcome to Taldren Forums.
