Ok so wow, what an awesome film.
Starts straight into the action, so from the opening credits I was gripped, right up until the incredibly terrible song they had at the end credits.
The battles were awesome, well directed. One of the only roles I think Brad Pitt has been any real good in, man he musta gone through a lot of training for that role, some amazing moves (a bit gory at times, throat cutting etc. just a warning)
I really liked the actor who played Hector (Supposed to be the same guy off of hulk, but that movie stank)
Lots of intertwining relationships (no I didnt mention insest), all very well acted.
All in all it was a completely awesome film, there is one moment that sticks in my mind, when the ocean is filled with the 1000 ship fleet of the Greeks, man that was spectacular, though apparently only 2 of the ships were real.

Im sure it would bring a joyful tear to Homers' eye. 9/10 IMO

The music sounded like a last minute horror kit-bash that it was, the war lasted 10 years not twelve days, Helen left a child and eventually went back and became the defining model of obedient wife, Hector was politically  correctified, the only action that was remotely interesting was when Achilles was invovled, people who weren't suppose to die did, people who were suppose to die died at the wrong time in the wrong place by the wrong hands, and the gods were no where to be found.

This movie is a Hollywood bastardization of The Illiad classic that Homer wouldn't recognize. And a poorly directed poorly paced bastardization at that.  I rate it a pile of stinking crap.

Ok, so it may not be accurate, but its good.
It was not poorly directed at all, I thought it was brilliant.
The music was torture.

It WAS poorly directed though.  I'm left to wonder if anyone actually READ the book/poem. Like you said, to leave the gods out of a Greek history is ridiculous.

Not that I'm a super fan of Brad Pitt, but I'm guessing Troy is nowhere near his best work.

Some films of note you may wish to check out if you have not already:

Ocean's Eleven
Spy Game
The Mexican
Snatch
Fight Club
12 Monkeys
Se7en
Kalifornia

I guess of his extensive resume, those would be the ones I'd consider his best.
